Senior Captain - Part 91 Flight Department
Jet Aviation Staffing, a leader in aviation recruitment since 1983, is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Senior Captain to join a distinguished Part 91 family flight department. This role is integral to ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, and operational excellence for every flight.
Position Summary
The Senior Captain, reporting to the Director of Operations, will be primarily responsible for the safe and efficient execution of all assigned flight operations. This role demands the highest emphasis on safety, security, and quality. The Senior Captain exercises ultimate Pilot in Command authority for all flights, serving as the final decision-maker for the safe conduct of each operation.
Minimum Requirements
- Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- FAA First Class Medical certificate, valid and maintainable.
- 3,500 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
- 1,500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight time.
- 1,500 hours Pilot-in-Command flight time.
- 1,500 hours Turbojet flight time.
- 500 hours Turbine flight time.
- 100 hours Night flight time.
- 75 hours Instrument flight time (actual or simulated).
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive aviation experience.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively worldwide without restrictions.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
Main Responsibilities
- Safely operate aircraft, determining optimal departure times, routes, and making necessary flight cancellations based on weather or other critical conditions.
- Ensure all flights are conducted in strict adherence to federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate aircraft scheduling and crew training, utilizing supplemental crew resources as required in conjunction with the Dispatcher.
- Liaise with the Director of Maintenance regarding aircraft servicing, cleaning, and other operational needs.
- Oversee the submission and review of flight and duty records, and all other essential documentation by assigned crew members.
- Ensure aircraft manuals, charts, and electronic flight bags (EFBs) are current, delegating updates as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Director of Operations to coordinate crew member training and check rides according to the annual training calendar.
- Manage crew time off and training schedules to ensure maximum aircraft availability and operational continuity.
- Verify that flight crew members report for duty appropriately attired and are mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Mentor and coach flight crew members to foster their professional development.
- Participate actively in staff meetings.
- Provide support to the Director of Operations as requested.
- Contribute to the flight crew hiring process.
- Implement necessary adjustments to flight plans due to en route conditions, ensuring continued compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Conduct all flights in a safe, prudent, and professional manner, adhering to industry and company standards.
- Accurately complete all trip-related paperwork in accordance with established procedures.
- Ensure a thorough understanding of all flight aspects with the second in command.
- Record and report aircraft discrepancies on the designated log, immediately notifying the Director of Maintenance or their designee.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all authorized aircraft systems, including emergency systems and procedures.
- Secure the aircraft post-flight, arranging for hangar storage if necessary or instructed.
- Obtain current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized agencies.
- File or ensure the filing of flight plans with air traffic control.
- Analyze en route and terminal charts for intended landing airports and alternates.
- Conduct required passenger safety briefings or delegate this duty to the second in command.
- Impart knowledge and skills to the second in command to prepare them for assuming Pilot in Command duties in emergency situations or during career progression.
- Complete and transmit the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Complete and submit the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon conclusion of each flight day.
- Actively promote open communication regarding all safety matters, reporting hazards and concerns.
- Immediately report any hazardous actions, conduct, or events to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- While duties may be delegated, the ultimate responsibility remains with the Pilot in Command.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
- Represent the Flight Department professionally both internally and externally, engaging with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the broader aviation network.

The employee must be comfortable working in both heavy maintenance areas and upscale customer-facing environments. The typical noise level is moderate, with occasional high volumes during aircraft arrivals and departures. Exposure to vibration is frequent. Occasional fuel fumes may be present. The employee must be prepared to work in all weather conditions. The noise level in the hangar environment can be loud, and extreme temperatures (heat and cold) may be experienced seasonally.
Compensation
The estimated salary range for this position is $250,000 to $270,000 annually. This figure is indicative and not a guarantee of compensation. Actual salary will be determined based on factors including experience, geographic location, and other relevant qualifications.
