Position Summary
The Lead Captain reports to the regional chief pilot and is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments, prioritizing safety, security, and quality. The Captain exercises Pilot-in-Command authority for all assigned flights and serves as the final authority on the safe operation of the aircraft.
Main Responsibilities
- Operates the aircraft safely, determining departure times, routes, and flight cancellations based on conditions.
- Ensures complete compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinates aircraft scheduling and training with the flight crew and Customer Service Representative (CSR), utilizing supplemental crew as needed.
- Liaises with the Maintenance Manager regarding aircraft servicing, cleaning, and related matters.
- Ensures assigned crew members submit and review flight, duty, and other required records.
- Manages the currency of aircraft manuals, Jeppesen charts/EFBs, delegating tasks as required.
- Collaborates with the Manager of Training to coordinate crew member training and check rides based on the annual training calendar.
- Coordinates time off and training events with crew members to maintain maximum aircraft coverage.
- Verifies that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and are mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Mentors and coaches crew members to support their professional development.
- Conducts annual performance reviews for assigned crew members.
- Attends Lead Captain meetings.
- Assists the Account Director upon request.
- Participates in the hiring process for flight crew.
- Implements necessary changes based on en route conditions to ensure flight continuation under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Conducts the flight in a safe and prudent manner in accordance with industry and company standards.
- Ensures accurate completion of all trip paperwork according to current procedures.
- Maintains a thorough understanding with the second in command regarding all aspects of flight.
- Records aircraft discrepancies on the log as they occur and reports them immediately to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or designee.
- Determines if inoperative items can be deferred or need repair based on the approved MEL and DOM direction, completing the discrepancy log accordingly.
- Maintains a complete working knowledge of all authorized aircraft systems, including emergency systems and procedures.
- Secures the aircraft after each flight, arranging hangar storage if necessary or instructed by company management.
- Obtains the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMS from authorized agencies.
- Files or causes a flight plan to be filed with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
- Analyzes area, enroute, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and alternates.
- Performs the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under applicable security programs.
- Conducts required passenger safety briefings or assigns the duty to the second in command.
- Imparts knowledge and skills to the second in command to prepare them for Pilot-in-Command duties in an emergency or upon upgrade.
- Completes and sends the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Completes and sends the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
- Takes an active role in supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and reports all safety hazards and concerns.
- Makes an immediate report of any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the chief pilot and director of safety.
- Delegates duties but retains responsibility.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Represents Jet Aviation as one company internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
Minimum Requirements
- Possesses an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- Obtains and maintains an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- 4000 hours Total Fixed Wing.
- 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land.
- 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command.
- 1500 hours Turbojet.
- 1500 hours Turbine time.
- 100 hours Night.
- 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument.
- 5 years of aviation experience.
- Ability to work flexible schedules.
- Willingness to travel worldwide extensively and without any restrictions.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Possesses a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Work Environment

The employee must be able to work in both a heavy maintenance environment and in upscale customer areas. The noise level is usually moderate with occasional high volume when aircraft arrive/depart. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. Occasional fuel fumes may permeate the workplace. Employee must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions. The noise level is usually loud. The Hangar environment may be extreme hot and cold during certain seasons.
