Pilot in Command
A premier corporate flight department is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Pilot in Command to join its professional aviation team. Pilot in Command Summary:
The Pilot in Command is primarily responsible for the safety of passengers and crew, alongside the comfortable and timely operation of the company aircraft.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures aircraft are airworthy and prepared for flight in accordance with all local and federal regulations, and company policies.
- Supervises flight and ground crews supporting assigned flights under day, night, and instrument conditions, both domestically and internationally.
- Exercises exceptional care and judgment during flight operations, remaining alert to manage irregularities and adverse weather conditions. Determines appropriate courses of action to ensure the safety of passengers and company property, managing potential delays, rerouting, or flight cancellations.
- Supervises the loading of passengers, baggage, and cargo. Accurately calculates aircraft performance and weight and balance, ensuring strict adherence to all limitations outlined in the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) and company policy documents.
- Coordinates flight planning activities with flight operations and scheduling personnel. Provides timely updates to passengers regarding arrival and departure time changes and weather information, and assists in resolving passenger requirements.
- Performs duties as Second-in-Command when assigned by dispatch.
- Actively collaborates with other crewmembers to ensure high-quality Crew Resource Management (CRM) is consistently utilized during all aircraft operations.
- Ensures proper servicing, storing, care, security, and protection of company aircraft and equipment while away from the home base.
- Reviews purchase orders and signs for contracted fees and services; conducts post-flight inspections of the aircraft; and reports malfunctions and operating data to the maintenance department.
- Verifies that flight crew reporting for duty are in proper attire and are mentally and physically fit for flight.
- Adheres strictly to company policies and procedures as documented in the Flight Operations Manual (FOM), Standard Operating Procedures Manual (SOP), and all corporate policy manuals.
- Actively participates in the aviation Safety Management System (SMS).
- Submits company timesheets, trip paperwork, and all required documentation in a timely manner.
- Maintains a high level of pilot skill, aeronautical knowledge, and remains engaged and aligned with the flight department's objectives.
- Performs other general department collateral duties as assigned.
Education & Training Requirements:
- Possesses aeronautical experience and education sufficient to demonstrate the required skill and judgment.
- Holds an FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (Multi-Engine Land).
- Requires at least one Turbojet Type Rating; GVII type rating is preferred.
- A college degree is preferred, but not required.
Experience Requirements:
- Has logged a minimum of 3,000 total flight hours as Pilot in Command or Second in Command of fixed-wing aircraft.
- Has logged a minimum of 500 hours as pilot-in-command of turbojet aircraft.
- Must have no restrictions on Passport, VISA, or overall health that would impede worldwide travel.
- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Requires an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- Experience within a Corporate Flight Department is preferred.
- G-VII or Gulfstream experience is strongly preferred, but not required.
- International Flight Operations Experience is preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Must be willing to work at the Corporate Headquarters Flight Operations facility Monday through Friday, with availability for weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to travel internationally, requiring a valid passport.
- Must be a team player exhibiting a positive attitude, integrity, honesty, and a proactive approach to finding solutions in the best interest of the department and the company.
- Must reside within a reasonable, commutable driving distance from the Flight Operations facility in Sterling, Virginia.
- Must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated by the start date unless medical or religious exceptions apply.
- Must be able to lift/move up to 62 pounds for tasks including:
- Removing emergency exit windows.
- Bringing passenger baggage into the aircraft via the baggage door.
- Launching a life raft in emergency situations.
