Pilot in Command
Position Summary
The Pilot in Command reports to the Lead Captain, adhering to company operating policies and procedures. This role is critically responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments, with a primary emphasis on safety, security, and quality. The Pilot in Command exercises full authority over all assigned flights and serves as the final authority for ensuring the safe execution of each flight operation.
Minimum Requirements
- Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP) with the appropriate Aircraft Type Rating is required.
- Must obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- A minimum of 4000 hours of Total Fixed Wing flight time.
- A minimum of 1500 hours of Multi-Engine Land flight time.
- A minimum of 2000 hours of Pilot-in-Command (PIC) flight time.
- A minimum of 1500 hours of Turbojet flight time.
- A minimum of 1500 hours of Turbine flight time.
- A minimum of 100 hours of Night flight time.
- A minimum of 75 hours of Actual or Simulated Instrument flight time.
- A minimum of 5 years of aviation experience.
- Ability to work flexible schedules.
- Willingness and ability to travel worldwide extensively without restrictions.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Main Responsibilities
- Safely operates the aircraft, determining departure times, routes, and making decisions regarding flight cancellations based on prevailing weather or other conditions.
- Ensures complete compliance of all flights with federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Implements necessary changes dictated by en route conditions to continue flights in accordance with company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Conducts flights in a safe and prudent manner, adhering to industry and company standards.
- Accurately completes all required trip paperwork according to current procedures.
- Ensures a thorough and complete understanding of all flight aspects is shared with the Second in Command.
- Records all aircraft discrepancies in the aircraft discrepancy log as they occur and reports them immediately to the Director of Maintenance or designee. Refers to the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and determines, as directed by the DOM or designee, if an inoperative item can be deferred or requires repair, completing the aircraft discrepancy log accordingly.
- Verifies that the flight crew reports for duty properly attired and is mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Maintains a complete working knowledge of all authorized aircraft systems, including emergency systems and associated procedures.
- Secures the aircraft following each flight, including arranging hangar storage when deemed necessary or as instructed by company management.
- Obtains the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMS from an FAA flight service station or other authorized agency.
- Files or ensures filing of a flight plan with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
- Analyzes area, enroute, and terminal charts for the intended destination and alternate airports.
- Performs duties as the In-flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the applicable standard security program (Twelve Five Standard Security Program or Private Charter Standard Security Program).
- Conducts required passenger safety briefings or delegates this duty to the Second in Command.
- Imparts knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to facilitate assumption of Pilot in Command duties in an emergency or upon their upgrade to Pilot in Command for that aircraft type.
- Completes and transmits the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Completes and transmits the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon finishing each flight day.
- Takes an active role in supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and reports all safety hazards and concerns.
- Reports any hazardous action, conduct, or event immediately to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- May delegate assigned duties but retains full responsibility for their execution.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Represents Jet Aviation consistently as one company internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.

Work Environment

The employee must be able to work in both a heavy maintenance environment and in upscale customer areas. The typical noise level is moderate, with occasional high volume during aircraft arrivals and departures. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. Occasional fuel fumes may be present. The employee must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The Hangar environment may experience extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, during certain seasons.
