Job Overview: Plane Captain

The Plane Captain performs essential aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties. This role is responsible for daily and turnaround inspections, pre-operational equipment checks, and providing technical guidance and instruction to Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers. The successful candidate ensures the safety, security, and maintenance of government and company assets while adhering to all established safety protocols and industrial regulations.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Execute duties of Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications as required.
  • Perform daily and turnaround aircraft inspections per applicable procedures.
  • Complete all required maintenance documentation and forms.
  • Conduct aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with established standards.
  • Manage aircraft launch and recovery operations, including serving as an aircraft taxi director.
  • Perform towing operations and serve as an aircraft brake rider.
  • Execute aircraft tie-down and covering procedures.
  • Utilize two-way communication equipment effectively.
  • Maintain strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
  • Ensure full adherence to general and industrial safety rules.
  • Operate portable firefighting equipment and maintain work center cleanliness.
  • Provide courteous, professional customer service.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain/maintain all required government/company licenses, certifications, and security clearances.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance (US Citizenship required).
  • Prior military personnel must provide a member 4 DD214 with an Honorable character of service discharge.
  • Proficiency in the English language (read, write, and communicate).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and safety manuals.
  • Physical ability to climb, bend, squat, crawl, balance, and reach, with the capacity to lift, push, or pull up to 70 pounds.
  • Close, color, and peripheral vision, with depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must complete and pass a formal plane captain certification program and undergo semi-annual re-qualification.
  • Must be qualified on all assigned aircraft T/M/S and be available for all shifts and schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, E-2C, F-16, and/or MH60 aircraft.
  • Existing certifications in Hazardous Waste Communications, FOD/TCP Awareness, ISO 9001-2000, and Operational Risk Management (ORM).
  • Licensure for support equipment (tow tractor, nitrogen carts, engine wash/start units).
  • Ability to utilize manual dexterity and operate in environments requiring respiratory protection.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Rate: $50.66 (As established by Collective Bargaining Agreement).
