Position Summary
The Lead Captain is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of all flight assignments, reporting to the Regional Chief Pilot on company operating policies and procedures. This critical role emphasizes safety, security, and quality, with the Lead Captain holding final authority for the safe execution of all assigned flights as Pilot in Command.
Minimum Requirements
- Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- Valid FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- 3500 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
- 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight time.
- 1500 hours Pilot-in-Command flight time.
- 1500 hours Turbojet flight time.
- 500 hours Turbine flight time.
- 100 hours Night flight time.
- 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument flight time.
- A minimum of 5 years of aviation experience.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively worldwide without restriction.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Main Responsibilities
- Safely operate aircraft, determine departure times and routes, and cancel flights as necessary based on weather or other conditions.
- Ensure all flights comply strictly with federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate aircraft schedules and training with the flight crew and Customer Service Representatives (CSRs), utilizing supplemental crew as required.
- Liaise with the Maintenance Manager for aircraft servicing, cleaning, and other related tasks.
- Ensure assigned crew members accurately submit and review flight and duty records, along with all other required documentation.
- Verify that aircraft manuals, Jeppesen charts, and Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) are current, delegating updates as necessary.
- In collaboration with the Manager of Training, coordinate crew member training and check rides according to the annual training calendar.
- Manage crew member time off and training schedules while ensuring maximum aircraft availability.
- Confirm that flight crew members report for duty in appropriate attire and are mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Mentor and coach crew members to foster their professional development.
- Conduct annual performance reviews for assigned crew members.
- Attend Lead Captain meetings.
- Provide assistance to the Account Director as requested.
- Participate in the hiring process for flight crew members.
Additional Responsibilities
- Implement all necessary changes due to en route conditions to ensure flights continue under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Conduct all flights in a safe, prudent, and professional manner, adhering to industry and company standards.
- Ensure accurate and complete completion of all trip paperwork in accordance with current procedures.
- Confirm a thorough understanding of all flight aspects with the second in command.
- Record all aircraft discrepancies on the aircraft discrepancy log and report them immediately to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or their designee.
- Refer to the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and follow DOM directives regarding deferred or repaired inoperative items, completing the discrepancy log accordingly.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all authorized aircraft systems, including emergency systems and procedures.
- Secure the aircraft after each flight, arranging for hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed by management.
- Obtain the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized agencies.
- File or cause to be filed flight plans with the FAA or ICAO state ATC facilities.
- Analyze area, en route, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and alternates.
- Perform the functions of the In-flight Security Coordinator (ISC) in accordance with applicable security programs.
- Conduct required passenger safety briefings or delegate this duty to the second in command.
- Impart knowledge and skills to the second in command to prepare them for potential Pilot in Command duties in emergencies or during upgrade opportunities.
- Complete and submit the leg manifest to Ops Control prior to each departure.
- Complete and submit the End of Day (EOD) report to Ops Control upon completion of each flight day.
- Actively support the open sharing of information on all safety issues and report all safety hazards and concerns.
- Report any hazardous action, conduct, or event immediately to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- While duties may be delegated, the Pilot in Command retains ultimate responsibility.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Represent Jet Aviation professionally both internally and externally, including with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.

Work Environment
Employees will work in both heavy maintenance environments and upscale customer areas. The noise level is typically moderate, with occasional high volumes during aircraft arrivals and departures. Employees may be exposed to vibration and occasional fuel fumes. Willingness to work in all weather conditions is essential. The hangar environment can experience extreme temperatures during different seasons.
