Position Summary
The Gulfstream 450 Captain serves as the Pilot in Command (PIC), reporting directly to the Lead Captain regarding company operating policies and procedures. This pivotal role holds ultimate authority and responsibility for the safe, secure, and efficient execution of all assigned flight operations, prioritizing safety, security, and exceptional quality standards. The Captain exercises full Pilot in Command authority for all flights and is the final authority on decisions pertaining to the safe conduct of flight.
Main Responsibilities
The Pilot in Command is entrusted with a comprehensive set of responsibilities to ensure the highest standards of flight operation and customer service:
- Safely operates the aircraft, making critical determinations regarding departure times, routes, and flight cancellations based on prevailing weather or other operational conditions.
- Ensures absolute adherence to all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures throughout all phases of flight.
- Initiates and implements necessary changes as dictated by en route conditions, ensuring the flight continues in full compliance with company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Conducts all flights in a safe and prudent manner, consistently upholding industry and company standards.
- Completes all trip-related paperwork accurately and in accordance with current operational procedures.
- Ensures a thorough and complete understanding and coordination with the Second in Command regarding all aspects of flight.
- Records all aircraft discrepancies on the aircraft discrepancy log as they occur and promptly reports them to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or their designee. Determines, in consultation with the DOM, whether inoperative items can be deferred or require immediate repair, completing the discrepancy log as required by the Approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL).
- Verifies that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and are physically and mentally fit for duty.
- Maintains comprehensive working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized for operation, including all emergency systems and associated procedures.
- Secures the aircraft post-flight, including arranging for hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
- Obtains the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized agencies such as an FAA flight service station.
- Files or ensures the filing of a flight plan with the FAA or an appropriate ICAO state ATC facility.
- Analyzes area, enroute, and terminal charts for the intended landing airport and designated alternates.
- Performs the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) in accordance with the twelve-five standard security program or private charter standard security program, as applicable.
- Conducts required passenger safety briefings or delegates this duty to the Second in Command.
- Imparts knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them for assuming PIC duties in emergencies or for future upgrade opportunities.
- Completes and submits the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Completes and submits the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
- Actively supports the open sharing of information on all safety issues and is responsible for reporting all safety hazards and concerns.
- Immediately reports any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- Delegates duties as appropriate, while retaining full responsibility for their execution.
- Represents Jet Aviation as a unified entity both internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and within the General Dynamics network.
- Performs other duties as required to support operational excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following stringent requirements:
- Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with the appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- A minimum of 4,000 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
- A minimum of 1,500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight time.
- A minimum of 2,000 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) flight time.
- A minimum of 1,500 hours Turbojet flight time.
- A minimum of 1,500 hours Turbine engine time.
- A minimum of 100 hours Night flight time.
- A minimum of 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument flight time.
- At least 5 years of professional aviation experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexible schedules.
- Willingness and capability to travel worldwide extensively, without any restrictions.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, with occasional high volume during aircraft arrivals and departures. Frequent exposure to vibration and occasional fuel fumes may be present. The employee must be willing and able to work in diverse weather conditions. Hangar environments may experience extreme hot and cold temperatures depending on the season, and the noise level can be consistently loud.
