Position Summary
The Pilot in Command assumes paramount responsibility for the safe, secure, and efficient conduct of all assigned flight operations. Reporting directly to the Lead Captain, the Pilot in Command exercises final authority for flight safety and ensures strict adherence to all company operating policies and procedures. This critical role demands a steadfast commitment to operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operates the aircraft safely, determining optimal departure times and routes, and making informed decisions regarding flight cancellations based on prevailing weather or other conditions.
- Ensures all flights are conducted in strict compliance with federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Implements all necessary changes as dictated by en route conditions to ensure the flight proceeds under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Conducts all flights in a safe and prudent manner, upholding the highest industry and company standards.
- Completes all required trip paperwork accurately and in accordance with current procedures.
- Ensures a thorough and complete understanding is achieved with the Second in Command regarding all aspects of the flight.
- Records all aircraft discrepancies on the aircraft discrepancy log as they occur and promptly reports them to the Director of Maintenance or their designee. Determines, in consultation with the Director of Maintenance or designee and referring to the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL), whether an inoperative item can be deferred or requires immediate repair, completing the aircraft discrepancy log as required.
- Verifies that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and is mentally and physically fit for their assignments.
- Maintains a comprehensive working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized for operation, including all emergency systems and associated procedures.
- Secures the aircraft post-flight, including arranging hangar storage when deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
- Obtains the most current weather reports, forecasts, and Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) from authorized agencies such as an FAA flight service station.
- Files, or causes to be filed, a flight plan with the FAA or an ICAO state Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility.
- Analyzes area, enroute, and terminal charts for the intended landing airport and any designated alternates.
- Performs the functions of the In-flight Security Coordinator (ISC) as required by the applicable standard security program (e.g., Twelve Five Standard Security Program or Private Charter Standard Security Program).
- Conducts required passenger safety briefings or delegates this duty to the Second in Command.
- Imparts essential knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them to assume Pilot in Command duties during emergencies or upon upgrade to Pilot in Command status for that aircraft type.
- Completes and submits the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Completes and submits the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon the conclusion of each flight day.
- Takes an active role in supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and promptly reports all safety hazards and concerns.
- Immediately reports any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- May delegate specific duties but retains ultimate responsibility for their successful execution.
- Performs other duties as required to support operational needs.
- Represents Jet Aviation as a unified entity, both internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
Minimum Requirements
- Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with the appropriate Aircraft Type Rating is mandatory.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- A minimum of 4000 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
- A minimum of 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight time.
- A minimum of 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) flight time.
- A minimum of 1500 hours Turbojet flight time.
- A minimum of 1500 hours Turbine time.
- A minimum of 100 hours Night flight time.
- A minimum of 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument flight time.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional aviation experience.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including irregular hours.
- Willingness and ability to travel worldwide extensively, without any restrictions.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee must be adept at working in both heavy maintenance environments and upscale customer areas. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate but may occasionally be high during aircraft arrivals/departures. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. Occasional fuel fumes may be present in the workplace. The employee must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions. The Hangar environment can experience extreme hot and cold temperatures during certain seasons.
