Position Summary
Reporting to the lead captain regarding company operating policies and procedures, the Captain serves as the Pilot in Command and is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of all assigned flight assignments. This role places a strong emphasis on safety, security, and quality. The Pilot in Command exercises full authority over all assigned flights and is the final authority for the safe conduct of the flight.
Main Responsibilities
The Captain's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Operating the aircraft safely and determining departure times, routes, and potential flight cancellations based on weather or other relevant conditions.
- Ensuring complete compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures during flight operations.
- Implementing necessary changes required by en route conditions to ensure the flight continues under appropriate company guidelines.
- Conducting the flight in a safe and prudent manner in accordance with industry and company standards.
- Completing all trip paperwork accurately and in accordance with current procedures.
- Ensuring thorough understanding and coordination with the second in command regarding all aspects of flight.
- Recording all aircraft discrepancies as they occur on the aircraft discrepancy log, immediately reporting them to the Director of Maintenance or designee.
- Determining if an inoperative item can be deferred or requires repair based on the approved MEL and direction from the DOM or designee, completing the discrepancy log accordingly.
- Verifying that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and is mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Maintaining a complete working knowledge of all authorized aircraft systems, including emergency systems and associated procedures.
- Securing the aircraft after each flight, which may include arranging hangar storage when deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
- Obtaining the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from FAA flight service stations or other authorized agencies.
- Filing or causing a flight plan to be filed with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
- Analyzing area, enroute, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and alternates.
- Performing the functions of the Inflight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the provisions of the applicable standard security program.
- Conducting required passenger safety briefings or assigning this duty to the second in command.
- Imparting knowledge and skills to the second in command to prepare them for assuming Pilot in Command duties in an emergency or upon upgrading.
- Completing and sending the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Completing and sending the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
- Taking an active role in supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and reporting all safety hazards and concerns.
- Making an immediate report of any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- Delegating duties as necessary, understanding that responsibility for those duties remains with the Pilot in Command.
- Representing Jet Aviation as one company internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
- Performing other duties as may be required.
Minimum Requirements
- Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- 4000 hours Total Fixed Wing flight experience.
- 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight experience.
- 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command flight experience.
- 1500 hours Turbojet flight experience.
- 1500 hours Turbine time.
- 100 hours Night flight experience.
- 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of aviation experience.
- Ability to work flexible schedules.
- Willingness and ability to travel worldwide extensively without restrictions.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands
The physical demands required for this role are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions. This includes the use of hands and fingers for handling, feeling, or reaching, and frequent requirements to stand, walk, or sit. Occasional tasks involve climbing or balancing, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The role requires frequent lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds above the head. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
Work Environment
The work environment presents characteristics typical of aviation operations. Employees must be adaptable to working in both heavy maintenance environments and upscale customer areas. Noise levels are usually moderate but can be high during aircraft arrivals and departures. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration and occasionally to fuel fumes. The ability to work in all types of weather conditions is necessary. Hangar environments may experience extreme hot and cold temperatures depending on the season.
