Lead Captain - Gulfstream 550 - Burbank, CA
Jet Aviation, a global leader in aviation services since 1967, seeks a highly experienced and motivated Lead Captain for its Gulfstream 550 operations based in Burbank, CA. As a key member of the Flight Services team, the Lead Captain is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of safety, security, and quality. He reports to the regional chief pilot regarding company operating policies and procedures and exercises Pilot-in-Command authority, holding the final authority for the safe conduct of each flight. This is an onsite position requiring a flexible work arrangement.
Responsibilities:
- Operates the aircraft safely, determining departure times and routes, and making decisions regarding flight cancellations based on weather or other conditions.
- Ensures complete compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinates aircraft schedules and training with the flight crew and CSR, utilizing supplemental crew as needed.
- Collaborates with the Maintenance Manager regarding aircraft servicing and maintenance.
- Ensures assigned crew members submit and review flight and duty records and all other required documentation.
- Maintains current aircraft manuals, Jeppesen charts/EFBs and delegates responsibilities as necessary.
- Coordinates crew member training and check rides in conjunction with the Manager of Training.
- Manages crew member time off and training events while maximizing aircraft coverage.
- Verifies that the flight crew reports for duty appropriately attired and mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Mentors and coaches crew members to support their professional development.
- Conducts annual performance reviews for assigned crew members.
- Attends Lead Captain meetings and assists the Account Director as requested.
- Participates in the hiring of flight crew.
- Institutes necessary changes dictated by en route conditions, ensuring flight continuation under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Conducts flights in a safe and prudent manner, adhering to industry and company standards.
- Accurately completes all trip paperwork.
- Ensures a thorough understanding of all flight aspects with the Second-in-Command.
- Records aircraft discrepancies, reports them to the Director of Maintenance, and determines if items can be deferred per the MEL.
- Maintains a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems, including emergency procedures.
- Secures the aircraft after each flight, arranging hangar storage as needed.
- Obtains current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs.
- Files flight plans with the FAA or ICAO ATC facility.
- Analyzes area, en route, and terminal charts.
- Performs the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC).
- Conducts passenger safety briefings.
- Imparts knowledge and skills to the Second-in-Command.
- Completes and sends leg manifests and End of Day (EOD) reports.
- Actively supports the open sharing of information on all safety issues and reports any hazards and concerns.
- Reports any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- Represents Jet Aviation internally and externally.
Minimum Requirements:
- Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- 4000 hours total fixed-wing flight time.
- 1500 hours multi-engine land flight time.
- 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command flight time.
- 1500 hours turbojet flight time.
- 1500 hours turbine time.
- 100 hours night flight time.
- 75 hours actual or simulated instrument flight time.
- 5 years of aviation experience.
- Ability to work flexible schedules.
- Willingness to travel worldwide extensively and without restrictions.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
