Position Summary

The Captain, serving as the Pilot in Command, operates under the guidance of the Lead Captain, ensuring strict adherence to all company operating policies and procedures. This pivotal role encompasses full responsibility for the safe, secure, and efficient execution of all assigned flight assignments, with an paramount emphasis on safety and quality. The Captain exercises comprehensive Pilot in Command authority for all flights and stands as the final authority for their safe conduct.

Main Responsibilities

The Captain’s primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following key duties:

  • Safely operating the aircraft, accurately determining optimal departure times and routes, and making authoritative decisions to cancel flights based on prevailing weather or other critical operational conditions.
  • Ensuring comprehensive compliance of all flight operations with federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Implementing all necessary changes as required by en-route conditions to ensure the flight continues under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Conducting all flights in a safe and prudent manner, fully aligning with both industry and company standards.
  • Ensuring accurate and complete submission of all required trip paperwork in accordance with current procedures.
  • Establishing and maintaining a thorough and complete operational understanding with the Second in Command regarding all aspects of flight.
  • Promptly recording all aircraft discrepancies on the aircraft discrepancy log as they occur and immediately reporting these discrepancies to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or their designee. The Captain will refer to the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and, as directed by the DOM, determine if an inoperative item can be deferred or necessitates immediate repair, completing the aircraft discrepancy log accordingly.
  • Verifying that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and is mentally and physically fit for duty.
  • Maintaining a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized for operation, including all emergency systems and associated procedures.
  • Securing the aircraft after each flight, including arranging for hangar storage if deemed necessary or as instructed by company management.
  • Obtaining the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized agencies, such as an FAA flight service station.
  • Filing or ensuring a flight plan is filed with the FAA or an ICAO state Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility.
  • Analyzing area, en-route, and terminal charts for the intended landing airport and designated alternates.
  • Performing the functions of the In-flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the provisions of the applicable Twelve Five Standard Security Program or Private Charter Standard Security Program.
  • Conducting the required passenger safety briefings or delegating this duty to the Second in Command.
  • Imparting knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them to assume Pilot in Command duties in an emergency or upon upgrading to Pilot in Command in the aircraft.
  • Completing and transmitting the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
  • Completing and transmitting the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
  • Actively supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and promptly reporting all safety hazards and concerns.
  • Immediately reporting any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
  • While the Pilot in Command may delegate certain duties, full responsibility for those duties remains with the Captain.
  • Performing other duties as required to support dynamic operational needs.
  • Representing Jet Aviation as a unified entity both internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and within the broader General Dynamics network.

Minimum Requirements

Prospective candidates must meet the following essential qualifications:

  • Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with the appropriate Gulfstream 650ER (G650ER) Aircraft Type Rating.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • A minimum of 4,000 hours of total fixed-wing flight time.
  • A minimum of 1,500 hours of multi-engine land flight time.
  • A minimum of 2,000 hours of Pilot-in-Command (PIC) flight time.
  • A minimum of 1,500 hours of turbojet flight time.
  • A minimum of 1,500 hours of turbine flight time.
  • A minimum of 100 hours of night flight time.
  • A minimum of 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument flight time.
  • At least 5 years of professional aviation experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexible schedules, including irregular hours and weekends, to meet operational demands.
  • Willingness and ability to travel worldwide extensively, without any restrictions.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Work Environment

The employee must be adept at working in both heavy maintenance environments and upscale customer areas. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, with occasional high volume during aircraft arrivals and departures. Employees are frequently exposed to vibration, and occasional fuel fumes may permeate the workplace. The role requires willingness and ability to work effectively in all types of weather conditions. The hangar environment may experience extreme hot and cold temperatures during certain seasons of the year, with a generally loud noise level.
