Position Overview:
Reporting to the Regional Chief Pilot, the Lead Captain holds ultimate responsibility for the safe and efficient execution of all assigned flights. This role demands unwavering commitment to safety, security, and quality, serving as the final authority in ensuring a secure and successful flight operation. The Lead Captain will expertly navigate the demands of flight operations, crew management, and regulatory compliance within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Exercise Pilot in Command authority, making critical decisions regarding flight safety, departure times, routes, and potential cancellations based on weather and operational conditions.
- Guarantee full compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures throughout flight operations.
- Meticulously manage the aircraft schedule and coordinate crew training, leveraging supplemental crew resources as needed.
- Maintain seamless communication and coordination with the Maintenance Manager regarding aircraft servicing, cleaning, and maintenance requirements.
- Supervise and review flight and duty records, ensuring meticulous documentation practices by all assigned crew members.
- Manage aircraft manuals and navigational charts, ensuring all materials are current and readily accessible for flight operations.
- Collaborate with the Manager of Training to coordinate and schedule crew member training and check rides, adhering to the annual training calendar.
- Expertly manage crew member time off and training schedules while ensuring consistent and optimal aircraft coverage.
- Verify that all flight crew members arrive for duty in proper attire, demonstrating mental and physical readiness for flight assignments.
- Serve as a mentor and coach to crew members, fostering their professional growth and development.
- Conduct thorough annual performance reviews for all assigned crew members.
- Actively participate in Lead Captain meetings, contributing to the continuous improvement of flight operations.
- Provide support to the Account Director as required.
- Assist in the recruitment and hiring process for new flight crew members.
- Adapt flight plans in response to en route conditions, ensuring adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of all aircraft systems, including emergency procedures.
- Secure the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage when necessary.
- Obtain and analyze weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized sources.
- File and manage flight plans with appropriate FAA or ICAO authorities.
- Execute the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) in accordance with established security protocols.
- Conduct or delegate passenger safety briefings, ensuring passenger well-being throughout the flight.
- Prepare the second in command to assume Pilot in Command responsibilities in emergency situations.
- Diligently complete and submit all required flight documentation, including leg manifests and End of Day reports.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to safety, actively sharing information, reporting hazards, and addressing concerns.
- Represent Jet Aviation professionally in all interactions with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and within the General Dynamics network.
Minimum Requirements:
- Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- 4,000 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
- 1,500 hours Multi-Engine Land experience.
- 2,000 hours Pilot-in-Command experience.
- 1,500 hours Turbojet experience.
- 1,500 hours Turbine time.
- 100 hours Night flying experience.
- 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument experience.
- 5+ years of aviation experience.
- Flexibility to work varied schedules.
- Ability to travel extensively worldwide without restrictions.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Physical Demands:
This role requires the physical ability to handle, feel, and reach with hands and fingers. The Lead Captain will frequently stand, walk, sit, and occasionally climb, balance, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lifting and moving up to 25 pounds is frequently required, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds overhead.
Work Environment:
This position requires working in both heavy maintenance environments and upscale customer areas. The noise level can range from moderate to loud, particularly during aircraft arrivals and departures. Exposure to vibration and occasional fuel fumes is possible. The Lead Captain must be willing and able to work in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures within the hangar environment.
