About the Role: Captain

The Captain assumes a pivotal role at the controls of one of the aviation industry's most innovative flight experiences. This position demands the safe, efficient operation of aircraft in full compliance with all regulatory requirements, while consistently delivering exceptional service on every flight. JSX prioritizes work-life balance, offering typical schedules averaging 3-5 legs per day over 14-16 days per month, with a strong commitment to returning Captains to their home base nightly.

Key Responsibilities: A Day in the Life

Pre-Flight Operations

  • Commences one hour prior to departure, allowing ample time for comprehensive preparation.
  • Reviews critical flight details, including maintenance status, NOTAMs, fuel loads, weather conditions, and routing via Traxxall.
  • Collaborates effectively with the First Officer to strategize departure and arrival procedures, review alternate airports, and confirm necessary diversion planning.
  • Conducts a meticulous walk-around and completes all required pre-flight checks, flows, and safety procedures to ensure aircraft airworthiness and readiness for departure.

In-Flight Operations

  • Operates the aircraft in strict adherence to FAA regulations, JSX Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the highest industry safety standards.
  • Maintains continuous, clear communication with Mission Control (Dispatch), Ground Operations, Air Traffic Control (ATC), and the Flight Attendant to ensure a coordinated and seamless flight experience.
  • Serves as the Pilot-in-Command (PIC), exercising ultimate authority on all operational decisions, employing sound judgment and established protocols to navigate dynamic conditions with confidence and professionalism.

Post-Flight Duties

  • Assists with essential quick-turn tasks, including light cabin tidying such as cleaning tray tables, crossing seatbelts, collecting trash, and supporting the Flight Attendant as needed to ensure on-time departures.
  • Accurately logs any required maintenance in Traxxall and communicates critical updates to Mission Control.
  • Records and confirms all Out, Off, On, In (OOOI) times for precise operational tracking and compliance.

Additional Duties

  • Participates actively in recurrent training and performance evaluations to maintain proficiency and foster career advancement.
  • Provides assistance with baggage handling or other ground duties at smaller airports where support services may be limited.
  • Consistently represents JSX with the utmost standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service, both within and outside the flight deck.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2500 total flight hours.
  • Minimum of 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) on the ATR aircraft.
  • Current on ATR 42/72 within the last three years.
  • Minimum of 1000 multi-engine hours.
  • Minimum of 100 hours within the last 12 months.
  • No FAA violations, accidents, incidents, or suspensions on record.
  • No significant training or check ride failures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3000+ total flight hours.
  • 1500+ multi-engine hours.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid FAA Pilot Certificate appropriate to the aircraft and operating position held.
  • Current and valid Driver’s License and Passport.
  • Current and valid FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Current and valid Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) or Commercial Multi-Engine Certificate.
  • Current and valid FCC Radio Operator’s Permit.

Compensation & Benefits: Pay & Perks

During training, compensation is $150.00 per day (plus per diem), increasing upon joining the line. A guaranteed 14-day minimum per month salary is provided, with eligibility for Productivity Pay and quarterly bonuses offering opportunities for additional earnings.

JSX provides 100% employer-paid dental and vision coverage, along with up to $2,100 annually for Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions.
