Chief Pilot

The Chief Pilot will play a crucial role in ensuring safe, efficient, and world-class air transportation for company personnel.

Job Summary:

The Chief Pilot is responsible for the overall management and operational control of the corporate flight department. This individual will oversee all aspects of flight operations, including adherence to FAA regulations (14 CFR Part 91 Subpart F), flight crew scheduling, maintenance coordination, and ensuring a superior passenger experience. The position requires a balance of tactical problem-solving and strategic planning to align with the company’s vision of providing exceptional service. The Chief Pilot also serves as a Pilot in Command (PIC) and will perform flight duties as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages all jet operations, including trip coordination, catering, ground transportation, maintenance, and passenger logistics.
  • Maintains clear and effective communication with executive leadership regarding flight operations, maintenance, and pilot training.
  • Delivers a world-class passenger experience onboard corporate aircraft.
  • Implements and enforces company policies to ensure full compliance.
  • Acts as the primary liaison with the FAA on matters related to aircraft operation and pilot certification.
  • Maintains all flight manuals, checklists, and required crew equipment.
  • Oversees crew training, testing, and record-keeping, ensuring adherence to all regulatory standards.
  • Exercises operational control over all company flight operations, including the authority to initiate, terminate, or divert flights.
  • Has the authority to suspend flight operations in the interest of safety.
  • Proactively addresses pilot staffing needs, recommending adjustments to maintain optimal efficiency and regulatory compliance.
  • Fulfills line pilot scheduling vacancies as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, within the past 8 years, operating aircraft under Part 121 or Part 135.
  • Possession of a valid Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with a type rating in the aircraft operated.
  • Minimum of 5,000 hours total flight time.
  • Valid and current FAA Class 1 or 2 Medical Certificate.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a Part 135 environment or equivalent military experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to make quick and accurate decisions.
  • Thorough knowledge of Company Manuals, Operations Specifications, and FAA Regulations.
  • Proficiency in safety management implementation.
  • Strong team-building capabilities in planning, organizing, staffing, and controlling flight operations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures, work processing systems, and record management.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Understanding of training technologies or a willingness to learn such methods.
  • Valid driver's license and passport, with the ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
  • Ability to pass Transportation Security Administration required background screening and secure airport security badges.
  • Ability to work varying hours that align with the company's culture and needs.
  • Fulfillment of all job responsibilities and requirements of a GREIF Pilot in Command.

Education & Technical Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or an aviation-related field.
  • FAA ATP with multi-engine rating.
  • 5,000 hours total flight time, which can include:
    • 1,250 hours with an appropriate university R-ATP certificate or
    • 1,000 hours with military pilot qualification or
    • 1,000 hours with appropriate university R-ATP certificate
    • 1,500 hours cross-country (greater than 50 nautical miles) flight time
    • 1,500 hours fixed-wing PIC
    • 250 hours of night flying, or 75 hours with 45 night takeoffs and landings
    • 250 hours of instrument time (actual or simulated in-flight, excluding simulator time).
  • Current FAA First or Second Class Medical Certificate.
  • FCC Restricted Radio Operator's Permit.

Physical Demands:

The role requires the ability to reach, manipulate small objects, and perform repetitive movements. The individual must be able to lift and carry objects that may exceed 70 pounds. The ability to sit for extended periods, perceive sound and visual information, and perform manual tasks is essential.
