Job Description

The Chief Pilot will oversee and monitor pilots and aircraft on all aviation projects for the geospatial business line in the Americas. The Chief Pilot ensures that all pilots and aircraft are mission ready and adhere to the Fugro Flight Operations Manual and safety standards, as well as comply with Federal, State, and FAA regulations. She/he applies risk assessments considering flight requirements and conditions and ensures that all Fugro aircraft are operated to the highest level of safety and that all crew members always maintain professional standards.

The Chief Pilot will also serve as Pilot in Command on remote sensing missions when required. While acting as Pilot in Command, she/he will be responsible for planning, managing, and executing these missions including coordinating all missions with appropriate agencies.

This position is based in Rapid City, SD.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management of pilots and flight operations to ensure efficient and effective use of people and equipment for both short- and long-range requirements
  • Organize, schedule, and equip planned deployments with aircraft, sensors, and qualified pilots in coordination with the Senior Flight Manager
  • Provide technical expertise for job estimating and at project planning meetings within Fugro and with external customers
  • Responsible for overall mission planning and safety of flight
  • Prepare flight plans for data acquisition missions in controlled airspace
  • Prepare/review daily activity logs and reports
  • Exercise judgement at the job site in determining conditions and procedures critical to effective data collection
  • Lead pilot and support teams in setting priorities for the sequence of workflow to ensure the most efficient completion of each project
  • Review project flight packets for job requirements and operations restrictions and coordinate with Senior Flight Manager
  • Act as a liaison to the Chief of maintenance-related maintenance related matters
  • Provide training oversight and act as a resource to assigned staff; transfer knowledge to staff, and identify training needs
  • Ensure flight crews have the information needed to perform effectively and efficiently
  • Conduct annual and bi-annual performance reviews and personal development plans for all assigned employees
  • Ensure efficient and profitable use of aircraft and aviation resources
  • Responsible for development and management of aircraft operations and support safety programs in coordination with Aviation Safety

Job Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States, without restrictions
  • Two years of college/technical training or equivalent experience is a plus
  • Minimum 3,000 hours total flight time
  • Minimum 1,500 hours as Pilot in Command; FAA PART 91 professional experience as a pilot with proven ability to safely manage and execute complex, evolving flight operations and critical project support missions.
  • Experience managing FAA PART 91 aviation scheduling, training, asset maintenance collaboration, and crew leadership. Demonstrated ability to succeed in leading individuals and developing assigned staff professionally to maximize both individual and team potential
  • FAA commercial, multi-engine instrument rating required
  • FAA CFII and MEI preferred
  • Current instrument rating
  • ATP Airline Transport Pilot certification preferred
  • Possess a high level of knowledge and capability in managing Part 91 aviation business
  • Ability to select qualified key staff members, establish a team environment and motivate others
  • Have detailed knowledge of HSE and ISO requirements and procedures as they relate to aviation
  • Currently hold or able to obtain a US Passport for possible international travel
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record
