Purpose of Position

The Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction, adhering rigorously to aviation regulations and FlightSafety Training principles.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conduct pilot ground and simulator training for clients engaged in core, specialty, or enrichment training programs.
  • Develop and prepare high-quality training materials that enhance learning outcomes and meet the specific needs of clients, in accordance with the relevant curriculum.
  • Evaluate and assess trainee progress, offering recommendations for qualification or additional training as required.
  • Maintain precise training records for each client, supporting their successful achievement of specified training objectives.
  • Proactively identify client training challenges and seek appropriate guidance before implementing training.
  • Maintain and uphold Instructor qualifications, complying with all regulatory requirements.

Minimum Experience

  • Must be able and willing to participate in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
  • Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate or an equivalent ICAO member state Airline Transport Pilot License.
  • In the absence of an ATP, must meet the requirements specified in:
    • 14 CFR part 61.153
    • 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
  • A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot-in-Command (PIC) type rating.
  • Preferred: Experience in FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training environments.
  • Preferred: A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of aviation safety standards and practices.
  • Sound knowledge of common aviation regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and teach classes.
  • Proficiency in basic facilitation techniques.
  • Exceptional first-level customer service skills.
  • A commitment to personal development, demonstrated by a willingness to be coached and receive constructive feedback.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role necessitates regular use of hands for tasks such as feeling, handling objects, and utilizing controls. Reaching with hands and arms, speaking, and listening are also essential. The employee may be required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and perform tasks involving taste or smell.

The candidate must possess the necessary physical range of motion to perform the following:

  • Reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque using both feet.
  • Reach and manipulate various controls within the Simulator device while seated in the Instructor's chair.
  • Enter and exit the Simulator via the provided ramp.
  • Move efficiently between the instructor station, screen, and podium during classroom instruction.
  • Exit a malfunctioning simulator, even when the device is in a severely pitched attitude.

Must possess the required vision capabilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts, may include high and precarious places, and potentially exposure to outside weather conditions, wet or humid environments, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
