Flight Instructor - C-17 Aircraft

Purpose of Position:
The Flight Instructor will be responsible for the delivery and assessment of ground-based training for C-17 pilots, encompassing the established Training System (TS) curriculum.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive training utilizing various devices, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), the C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground training programs. This training will cover airdrop, aerial refueling/transport operating procedures, including diagnosis and remediation of student problems.
- Maintain a high level of subject knowledge, instructional capability, and expertise in C-17 operations.
- Conduct detailed briefings and debriefings, providing counseling to all pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel to foster and sustain a high level of proficiency.
- Perform administrative duties related to training, including but not limited to:
- Interfacing with the user organization.
- Maintaining accurate training records.
- Monitoring student progress.
- Providing individualized counseling.
- Developing and updating training programs.
- Provide valuable input for courseware corrections and modifications, as well as updating training policies and procedures.
- Maintain instructional expertise by actively flying the WST as required.
- Maintain currency on operational procedures and observe student progress by flying on the C-17 aircraft in an observer status as required.
- Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, other personnel, and test events as needed.
- Serve as a Flight Check Airman (FCA) (Lead) when assigned by FlightSafety International.
- Serve as a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator when assigned by FlightSafety International.
- Accomplish Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties when assigned by FlightSafety International.
- Assist in project and development work as assigned.
- Participate in Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB) and Training Review Panels (TRP), as well as Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings (when FCA is unavailable) on a periodic basis.
- Attend Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and/or Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC) as required (when FCA is unavailable).
- Fulfill Learning Center monitor duties as assigned.
- Perform safety representative duties as designated/assigned.
- Perform physical/cyber security representative duties as assigned.
- Fulfill hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties as designated/assigned.
- Travel as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Eight (8) years of flying experience, with a minimum of five (5) years as a C-17 pilot with airdrop and aerial refueling experience. Candidates must possess a valid AMC/A3TK waiver or be able to obtain one.
- Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in airdrop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Exceptional ability to convey information clearly and effectively to others, both verbally and in writing.
- Proven ability to present information in a compelling and informative manner, engaging with audience questions and feedback.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of instructional principles and theories pertaining to Training Systems (TSs).
- Proficient in using personal computers and software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Successful completion of annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Possession of an active SECRET Security Clearance.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The role requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear on a regular basis. Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, and kneeling is also required. The position requires frequent ingress/egress from the simulator and aircraft, as well as working in various weather conditions and temperature extremes as outlined in Air Force and company guidelines. The Flight Instructor must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 35 pounds. Noise levels can range from quiet to extremely loud. The individual must be able to exit the WST via an escape ladder down to the floor.
