Flight Instructor - C-17 Aircraft

Purpose of Position:
The Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering ground-based training to C-17 pilots, ensuring the effective instruction and assessment of crewmembers in accordance with established Training System (TS) curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive training utilizing a variety of tools, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), the C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground training resources, covering air drop, aerial refueling/transport operating procedures, and effective diagnosis and remediation of student learning challenges.
- Maintain a high level of subject matter expertise, instructional competency, and proficiency.
- Conduct comprehensive briefings and debriefings, providing constructive feedback and counseling to pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
- Execute administrative tasks associated with training, including interfacing with the user organization, meticulous record keeping, monitoring student progress, delivering individualized counseling, contributing to training development, and maintaining the integrity of training programs.
- Provide valuable input for courseware corrections and modifications, ensuring training materials are current and relevant.
- Contribute to the ongoing refinement of training policies and procedures.
- Maintain instructional expertise by regularly piloting the WST.
- Observe student progress in an observer role during operational flights in the C-17 aircraft, ensuring currency with operational procedures.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for C-17 aircraft for students, other personnel, and testing events as required.
- Assume the role of Flight Check Airman (FCA) (Lead) when designated by the Employer.
- Function as a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator as assigned by the Employer.
- Execute Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties when assigned by the Employer.
- Contribute to project and development initiatives as assigned.
- Participate in Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB) and Training Review Panels (TRP), as well as Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings.
- Attend Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and/or Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC) as required.
- Fulfill Learning Center monitor responsibilities as assigned.
- Perform safety representative duties as designated/assigned.
- Assume physical/cyber security representative responsibilities as assigned.
- Execute hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties as designated/assigned.
- Travel as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Eight (8) years of flying experience, with at least five (5) years as a C-17 pilot with demonstrated proficiency in air drop and aerial refueling operations, or the ability to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver.
- Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are highly desirable.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Fluent English language proficiency, encompassing reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling clear and concise relaying of information to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and engage in responsive dialogue with customers.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of instructional principles and theories applicable to Training Systems (TSs).
- Proficiency in utilizing personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Successful completion of annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Possession of an active SECRET Security Clearance.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The position requires regular talking and hearing, as well as frequent sitting, standing, and walking. Hand dexterity and manipulation of objects and controls are essential. Occasional reaching with hands and arms, as well as stooping or kneeling, may be required. The role involves frequent ingress/egress from the simulator and aircraft, and exposure to inclement weather and temperature extremes as stipulated by Air Force and company guidelines. The ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 35 pounds, is essential. Noise levels may range from quiet to extremely loud. The individual must be capable of exiting the WST via the escape ladder to the floor.
