Flight Instructor - C-17 Aircraft

As a Flight Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional ground-based training to C-17 pilots, ensuring they achieve the highest levels of proficiency in air drop, aerial refueling, and transport operations.
Purpose of Position:
The Flight Instructor is responsible for the successful implementation of ground-based training for C-17 pilots, encompassing instruction, evaluation, and progress measurement within the established Training System (TS) curriculum.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive training using various tools including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground training resources.
- Maintain a high level of subject knowledge, expertise, and instructional capability in all aspects of C-17 operations.
- Conduct thorough pre-flight briefings and post-flight debriefings, providing constructive feedback to pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel to enhance proficiency.
- Perform essential administrative tasks associated with training, including communication with the user organization, meticulous record keeping, student progress monitoring, counseling, training development, and program maintenance.
- Proactively contribute to the refinement of courseware and training policies.
- Maintain currency in operational procedures by regularly flying the WST and observing student progress on the C-17 aircraft.
- Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, other personnel, and test events.
- Function as a Flight Check Airman (FCA) (Lead) when designated by the Employer.
- Act as a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator as assigned by the Employer.
- Participate in Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties when requested by the Employer.
- Contribute to project and development initiatives as needed.
- Attend Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB), Training Review Panels (TRP), and Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings.
- Participate in Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC).
- Perform Learning Center monitoring duties as assigned.
- Uphold safety representative responsibilities as designated.
- Execute physical/cyber security and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties as assigned.
- Travel as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education:
A Bachelor's degree is required.
Minimum Experience:
- A minimum of eight (8) years of flying experience, including five (5) years as a C-17 pilot with air drop and aerial refueling experience, or the ability to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver.
- Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent command of English, including reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to engage with audiences and answer questions.
- In-depth knowledge of instructional principles and theories related to Training Systems (TSs).
- Proficient in using personal computers and software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Successful completion of annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Active SECRET Security Clearance.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The Flight Instructor will be required to perform a variety of physical tasks, including sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, and lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds frequently and occasionally up to 35 pounds. The role will also involve ingress/egress from the simulator and aircraft, working in inclement weather and temperature extremes, and exposure to noise levels ranging from quiet to extremely loud. The Flight Instructor must be able to exit the WST by way of an escape ladder.
