Flight Instructor - C-17

Purpose of Position:
The Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering ground-based training to C-17 pilots, encompassing instruction and evaluation of crewmembers within the established Training System (TS) curriculum.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive training utilizing diverse training devices, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), the C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground training resources, focusing on airdrop, aerial refueling/transport operating procedures, and student problem diagnosis and remediation.
- Maintain a high level of subject knowledge, instructional proficiency, and expertise in C-17 aircraft operations.
- Conduct thorough pre- and post-training briefings and debriefings, providing constructive feedback to all pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel to foster and maintain a high level of proficiency.
- Execute administrative duties related to training, including communication with the user organization, meticulous record keeping, monitoring student progress, providing individualized counseling, contributing to training development, and ensuring the maintenance of effective training programs.
- Proactively provide input for courseware corrections, modifications, and updates, and actively participate in the refinement of training policies and procedures.
- Maintain instructional expertise by regularly flying the WST, as required.
- Observe student progress and maintain currency on operational procedures by flying on the C-17 aircraft in an observer role, as required.
- Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, other personnel, and test events, as needed.
- Act as Flight Check Airman (FCA)(Lead) upon assignment by the Employer.
- Fulfill Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator duties when assigned by the Employer.
- Execute Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) responsibilities upon assignment by the Employer.
- Contribute to project and development work, as assigned.
- Regularly participate in Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB) and Training Review Panels (TRP), as well as Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings when the FCA is unavailable.
- Attend Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and/or Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC), as required when the FCA is unavailable.
- Perform Learning Center monitor duties, as assigned.
- Fulfill safety representative duties, as designated/assigned.
- Carry out physical/cyber security representative duties, as assigned.
- Execute hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties, as designated/assigned.
- Travel, as required.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum Experience:
- Eight (8) years of flying experience, including five (5) years as a C-17 pilot with demonstrated airdrop and aerial refueling experience, or the ability to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver.
- Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in airdrop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking, and understanding).
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey information and respond to customer inquiries.
- Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories related to Training Systems (TSs).
- Proficiency in personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Demonstrated success in annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Active SECRET Security Clearance.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This role involves regular talking, hearing, sitting, standing, walking, and using hands to manipulate objects and controls. It may also involve occasional reaching, stooping, or kneeling. The teammate must frequently ingress/egress from the simulator and aircraft, and work in inclement weather and temperature extremes, as per Air Force and company guidelines. Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 35 pounds is required. Noise levels may vary from quiet to extremely loud. The teammate must be able to exit the WST via escape ladder down to the floor.
