Flight Instructor - C-17

Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor will play a pivotal role in the delivery of ground-based training for C-17 pilots. This includes instructing and evaluating the progress of crewmembers who participate in the established Training System (TS) curriculum.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive training utilizing various devices, including the Weapon System Trainer (WST), the C-17 aircraft, Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), and other ground training tools. This training encompasses essential areas such as air drop, aerial refueling, and transport operating procedures, along with the diagnosis and remediation of student challenges.
- Maintain a high level of subject matter expertise, instructional capability, and proficiency in all aspects of C-17 operations.
- Conduct effective briefings and debriefings, providing comprehensive counseling to pilots and Maintenance Engine Run personnel to foster a high level of proficiency.
- Execute administrative duties related to training, including interfacing with the user organization, meticulously maintaining records, monitoring student progress, providing comprehensive counseling, contributing to training development, and ensuring the ongoing maintenance of training programs.
- Provide valuable inputs for courseware corrections and modifications, actively contributing to the refinement of training policies and procedures.
- Maintain currency on operational procedures and observe student progress by flying the WST (as required) and accompanying flights on the C-17 aircraft (as required) in an observer role.
- Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, other personnel, and test events, as needed.
- Function as a Flight Check Airman (FCA)(Lead), when assigned by FlightSafety.
- Act as a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator, when assigned by FlightSafety.
- Participate in Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties when assigned by FlightSafety.
- Provide assistance in project and development work, as needed.
- Attend Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB) and Training Review Panels (TRP), as well as Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings (when FCA is unavailable).
- Participate in Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and/or Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC), as required (when FCA is unavailable).
- Contribute to Learning Center monitoring duties, as assigned.
- Fulfill safety representative duties, as designated/assigned.
- Execute physical/cyber security representative duties, as assigned.
- Manage hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties, as designated/assigned.
- Travel as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree is required.
- Eight (8) years of flying experience, including a minimum of five (5) years as a C-17 pilot with air drop and aerial refueling experience. Candidates with an AMC/A3TK waiver for the experience requirement will be considered.
- Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
- Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively relay information to others, both verbally and in writing.
- Proven ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from customers.
- Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories pertaining to training systems.
- Proficiency in personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Successful completion of annual internal standardization evaluations.
- Active SECRET Security Clearance.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The role requires regular talking, hearing, sitting, standing, walking, and using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls. The teammate will occasionally need to reach with hands and arms, and stoop or kneel. Frequent ingress/egress from simulators and aircraft, along with work in inclement weather and temperature extremes as per Air Force and company guidelines, is required. The teammate must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. Noise levels range from quiet to extremely loud. The ability to exit the WST by way of an escape ladder down to the floor is necessary.
