Purpose of Position

The Loadmaster Instructor is responsible for the accomplishment of ground-based training of all C-17 Loadmasters and instructs and measures training progress of students who train in the established Training System (TS) curriculum.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conducts briefings and debriefings and counsels with assigned students for the purpose of developing and maintaining a high level of proficiency.
  • Provides inputs for courseware corrections and modifications and updates to training policies and procedures.
  • Assists in project and development work, as assigned.
  • Conducts Loadmaster training in cargo loading/unloading procedures using the classroom, training aids, and devices, such as Computer-Based Training (CBT), Loadmaster Trainer (LMT), Cargo Compartment Trainer (CCT), Weapon System Trainer (WST), and the C-17 aircraft.
  • Evaluates, diagnoses, critiques student performance, identifies learning difficulties, recognizes objectives not accomplished, prescribes remedial instruction, and documents training progress.
  • Operates Training Management System/Graduate Training Information Management System (GTIMS). Interfaces with students and provides on-the-spot remediation or determines other courses of action.
  • Extracts student data, analyzes results, and prepares for student review sessions.
  • Serves as C-17 Loadmaster, Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students and other personnel, as required.
  • Loads/Unloads cargo in CCT (as required) to maintain instructional expertise.
  • Flies on the airplane (as required) in observer status to maintain currency on operational procedures and to observe student progress.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs administrative duties relative to training, such as record keeping, monitoring student progress, counseling, training development, and maintenance of training programs.
  • Serves as Flight Check Airman (FCA)(Lead), when assigned by the Employer.
  • Periodically attends Operations Group Standardization/Evaluation (Stan/Eval) Boards (SEB) and Training Review Panels (TRP), as well as Formal Training Unit (FTU) instructor meetings (when Flight Check Airman (FCA) is unavailable).
  • Attends Headquarters (HQ) Air Mobility Command (AMC) curriculum reviews, HQ AMC Stan/Eval Conferences, and/or Flight Manual Review Conferences (FMRC), as required (when FCA is unavailable).
  • Serves as C-17 Loadmaster Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students, other personnel, and test events, as required.
  • Serves as Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator, when assigned by the Employer.
  • Accomplishes Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties when assigned by the Employer.
  • Accomplishes Learning Center monitor duties, as assigned.
  • Accomplishes safety representative duties, as designated/assigned.
  • Accomplishes physical/cyber security representative duties, as assigned.
  • Accomplishes hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties, as designated/assigned.
  • Travels, as required.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Education

An Associate’s Degree or higher is required.

Minimum Experience

Must have C-17 instructor experience within five (5) years of hiring date, or able to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver. Minimum ten (10) years flying experience as a military crewmember. Minimum of two (2) years of flight instructor experience as a C-17 Loadmaster.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to interface with students and provide on-the-spot remediation or determine other courses of action.
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of instruction and a high level of subject knowledge, capability, and expertise.
  • Solid knowledge of the C-17 aircraft systems, cargo loading/unloading procedures, and general aircraft operating procedures.
  • Solid knowledge of instructional principles and theories pertaining to TSs.
  • Successfully accomplish an annual internal standardization evaluation.
  • Possess an active SECRET Security Clearance.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the teammate is regularly required to talk or hear; to sit, stand or walk; and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls. The teammate is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; and stoop or kneel. The teammate is frequently required to ingress/egress from the simulator and aircraft, work in inclement weather and temperature extremes as set forth in the Air Force and company guidelines. The teammate must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The teammate must have close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Noise levels range from quiet to extremely loud. Teammate must be able to exit the WST/CCT/LS by way of rope or escape ladder down to the floor.
