Purpose of the Position

The Simulator Second-in-Command (SIC) holds a crucial operational role, ensuring continuous currency in assigned flight programs. This highly capable professional acts as the "Second-In-Command" for both internal and external Customer Pilots engaged in Recurrent, Initial, or generic training courses. The SIC performs these duties in strict adherence to established training curriculum standards.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The Simulator Second-in-Command is entrusted with the following core duties, focusing on operational support rather than instructional delivery:

  • Serving as the competent Second-in-Command (SIC) for clients undertaking multi-crew aircraft training who arrive without a flying partner. The role focuses strictly on operational crew support and excludes instructional responsibilities.
  • Maintaining the requisite SIC pilot qualification and proficiency in strict accordance with the requirements of all assigned flight programs.
  • Ensuring ongoing SIC qualification is upheld according to FlightSafety International’s rigorous Quality Management Systems (QMS) processes and procedures.
  • Keeping all necessary certificates, ratings, and designations current to effectively execute duties as a proficient SIC.
  • Acting as SIC for diverse aircraft types to support training requirements under Part 142, Part 135, and non-FAA client programs as required by operational demands.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education

A High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency (G.E.D.) is required. Candidates should possess two to three (2-3) years of directly related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Experience and Certifications

Prior to commencing duties as an SIC, applicants must hold the following certificates and minimum flight time:

  • Commercial Pilot Certificate with appropriate category, class, and instrument ratings.
  • A minimum flight experience of 450 hours.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Successful candidates will demonstrate exceptional aptitude in the following areas:

  • Complete fluency in the English language, covering both verbal and written communication; must be proficient in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing English.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills tailored for the high-pressure cockpit environment.
  • The ability to professionally and effectively interact with a diverse array of customers and clients.
  • A proven capacity to adapt quickly to changing training schedules and successfully manage high-pressure, dynamic operational situations.
  • Note: Proficiency in a second language may be required at certain Learning Centers to meet specific customer needs.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the operational duties of this role, the employee is routinely required to use hands for handling objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally. The role may require standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

The position requires the physical range of body motion necessary to perform tasks within the simulator, including:

  1. Reaching, exerting pressure, and manipulating rudder controls and/or anti-torque pedals with both feet.
  2. Reaching and manipulating numerous controls located within the Simulator device.
  3. Entering and exiting the Simulator device safely via the provided ramp.
  4. Exiting from a malfunctioned Simulator while the device is potentially in a severely pitched attitude.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

The work environment frequently involves working near moving mechanical parts. Occasionally, the employee may encounter high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures (cold/heat), risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration. The typical noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
