Purpose of Position
The Simulator Second-in-Command is responsible for maintaining proficiency in assigned programs to serve as a competent Second-in-Command for both internal and external Customer Pilots. This role encompasses participation in recurrent, initial, or generic training courses within established training curriculums.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Serves as Second-in-Command (SIC) for clients training in multi-crew aircraft who are without a flying partner.
- Maintains SIC pilot qualification in compliance with program requirements.
- Adheres to FlightSafety International’s Quality Management Systems (QMS) processes and procedures to maintain SIC qualification.
- Ensures all certificates, ratings, and designations necessary for performing SIC duties are kept current.
- Performs SIC duties in various aircraft types for Part 142, Part 135, and non-FAA clients as required.
Minimum Education
A high school diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency (G.E.D.) is required. Candidates should also possess two to three (2-3) years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Experience
Prior to commencing SIC duties, applicants must hold the following certificates:
- Commercial Pilot Certificate with appropriate category, class, and instrument ratings.
- Minimum of 450 flight hours.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in English, encompassing both verbal and written communication, with the ability to speak, understand, read, and write effectively.
- Exceptional cockpit verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with diverse clients.
- Adaptability to fluctuating schedules and high-pressure environments.
- Proficiency in a second language may be required for some Learning Centers, dependent upon specific needs.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position requires the regular use of hands for manipulating objects, tools, and controls; reaching; and auditory communication. Employees may be required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use their senses of taste and smell.
Specifically, the individual must possess the physical dexterity to:
- Reach, apply pressure, and manipulate rudder controls and/or anti-torque using both feet.
- Reach and manipulate various controls within the Simulator device.
- Enter and exit the Simulator device using the provided ramp.
- Exit from a malfunctioning Simulator while in a severely pitched attitude.
Specific vision capabilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
The work environment involves exposure to moving mechanical parts. The individual may occasionally work in high, precarious places, in varying weather conditions, and may be exposed to wet or humid environments, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals, extreme temperatures, electrical shock risks, radiation risks, and vibration. The typical noise level is moderate.
