Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Assistant Chief Pilot, the Dash First Officer plays a crucial role in the safe and efficient transport of passengers and cargo. This position prioritizes the highest standards of flight safety, ensuring passenger comfort and optimal on-time performance for every operation on Dash 8 aircraft.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Conducts flights in strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM), and the Company Operations Manual (COM).
- Thoroughly checks weather conditions and all applicable NOTAMs, determining precise fuel and oil requirements.
- Accurately calculates aircraft weight and balance.
- Reviews, amends, and accepts the Operational Flight Plan (Type B 705 operation).
- Performs comprehensive pre-flight inspections before each departure.
- Oversees the loading, unloading, and securing of cargo/freight as required.
- Collaborates with the flight dispatcher on flight watch duties (Type B 705 operation).
- Completes all post-flight duties, including notifying/confirming aircraft whereabouts when away from base, recording flight times, and reporting any defects.
- Continuously meets and exceeds Transport Canada qualification standards for a Pilot.
- Performs additional aviation-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Certifications
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary transportation security clearances and additional authorizations.
- Possession of a current Category 1 Medical Certificate.
- Current Group 1 Instrument Rating.
- An Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is preferred, with a strong preference for candidates possessing 500 hours on DHC-8 aircraft.
- Previous airline operational experience is considered a significant asset.
- Demonstrated fluency in English, including effective verbal communication and listening comprehension.
- Indigenous and Cultural Awareness Training is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Capability to perform all outlined job duties, which may involve physical activity.
- Requirement to travel by aircraft and other modes of transport as dictated by operational needs.
- Work environment includes both indoor and outdoor settings, necessitating adaptability to diverse weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Readiness to work a flexible schedule and undertake travel for extended periods.
