Purpose of Position
The Simulator Second in Command plays a crucial role in upholding the highest standards of aviation training. Responsible for maintaining proficiency in assigned programs, the Simulator Second in Command acts as "Second-in-Command" for both internal and external customer pilots. This encompasses participation in Recurrent, Initial, and generic training courses, meticulously adhering to the established training curriculum.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a competent Second-in-Command (SIC) for clients undergoing multi-crew aircraft training without a designated flying partner, providing a realistic and supportive training environment.
- Maintain SIC pilot qualification in strict accordance with the requirements of assigned programs, ensuring the delivery of accurate and up-to-date instruction.
- Uphold SIC qualification standards in compliance with FlightSafety International's rigorous Quality Management Systems (QMS) processes and procedures, reflecting a commitment to excellence in all training endeavors.
- Maintain the validity of all certificates, ratings, and designations essential for performing duties as an SIC, demonstrating ongoing professional development and compliance.
- Act as SIC in a diverse range of aircraft for Part 142, Part 135, and non-FAA clients as required, showcasing adaptability and a broad understanding of aviation regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency (G.E.D.) with two to three (2-3) years of relevant experience and/or training.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Experience:
- Must hold a Commercial Pilot Certificate with appropriate category, class, and instrument ratings, alongside a minimum of 450 flight hours.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exceptional fluency in English, encompassing both verbal and written communication skills, is essential for effective interaction within a global aviation environment.
- Possess excellent cockpit verbal communication skills, ensuring clear and concise communication in critical training scenarios.
- Demonstrate the ability to interact professionally with diverse customers, cultivating a positive and respectful learning environment.
- Adapt effectively to changing schedules and high-pressure situations, maintaining composure and professionalism in demanding training environments.
- A second language may be required in some Learning Centers to meet specific operational needs, reflecting the global reach of FlightSafety's operations.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This role requires physical dexterity, including the ability to use hands for fine motor skills, reach with both arms, and communicate effectively. Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and the use of taste or smell may also be required.
Specifically, the candidate must demonstrate:
- The ability to operate rudder controls and anti-torque mechanisms using both feet, ensuring precise control during simulated flight.
- Proficiency in reaching and manipulating numerous controls within the simulator device, demonstrating familiarity with aircraft systems.
- The capability to safely enter and exit the simulator device using the provided ramp, maintaining situational awareness in a confined environment.
- The ability to safely exit a malfunctioning simulator, even when the device is in a severely pitched attitude, showcasing composure in emergency scenarios.
Vision:
This role requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, ensuring clear visual perception in a dynamic training environment.
Strength & Mobility:
The candidate must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
The work environment frequently exposes employees to moving mechanical parts and may involve work in high places, outside weather conditions, wet/humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, radiation risks, and vibration.
Noise levels are typically moderate.
