Purpose of the Position
The KC-46 Pilot Instructor will be responsible for all aspects of simulator-based training in the Weapon System Trainer (WST), including pre-briefings and debriefings, for U.S. Air Force and Allied Nation KC-46 Pilots participating in Quarterly Refresher training. This role demands a dedicated professional committed to instructing and evaluating the progress of both Pilot and Maintenance students enrolled in established aircrew training curricula.
Responsibilities & Duties
The KC-46 Pilot Instructor will be expected to:
- Conduct Quarterly Refresher training utilizing a variety of methods, including classroom instruction, Computer-based Training (CBT), WST simulations, and actual KC-46 aircraft.
- Deliver comprehensive ground-based training, as required, for Aircrew Members in tanker and receiver operating procedures, encompassing the diagnosis and remediation of student challenges.
- Lead Initial and Recurring training sessions for Maintenance Personnel enrolled in Engine Run courses.
- Facilitate insightful briefings and debriefings, and provide individual counseling to Aircrew Members and Maintenance Personnel, fostering the highest levels of technical expertise and student proficiency.
- Analyze student performance data, prepare comprehensive reports, and conduct effective student review sessions.
- Serve as a dedicated KC-46 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) for students and other relevant personnel, providing guidance and support.
- Maintain an unwavering commitment to exceptional standards of instruction, continuously expanding knowledge, refining capabilities, and deepening expertise.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of KC-46 aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- Demonstrate exceptional understanding and application of instructional principles and theories pertinent to aircrew training systems.
- Actively contribute to courseware corrections and modifications, while recommending updates to training policies and procedures.
- Provide assistance in various project and development endeavors, as assigned.
- Efficiently operate the Student Management System.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform essential administrative duties related to training, including meticulous record keeping, monitoring student progress, and providing constructive counseling.
- Actively participate in WST certification testing, as required.
- Review assigned CBT and classroom lesson plans for content accuracy, ensuring the highest level of Quality Assurance (QA). This includes recommending and incorporating corrections, modifications, and updates to established curricula.
- Provide valuable support in courseware development and maintain existing training curricula.
- Contribute to training device development initiatives.
- Participate in at least one annual aircraft familiarization flight as a non-flying, additional crew member.
- Be prepared to travel, as required.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Recent experience as a qualified Tanker Air-to-Air Refueling (AAR) Pilot Flight Instructor or Tanker AAR Aircrew Training System (ATS) Pilot Instructor (within the last 5 years).
- Minimum 200 flying hours in U.S. Air Force or Allied Nation aircraft, or equivalent flight simulator experience, with at least 50% in actual aircraft.
- Receiver AAR Instructor experience is highly desirable.
- B-767 type rating is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven ability to morally and ethically influence others to achieve program goals.
- Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking, and understanding).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interface with students, provide on-the-spot remediation, and determine appropriate courses of action.
- Basic knowledge of personal computers and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Ability to successfully complete an annual internal standardization evaluation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
Work Environment:
The work environment is typically moderate in noise level. The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods, use hands and fingers for handling and feeling, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively. Occasionally, lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds may be required. Good close and distance vision, as well as the ability to adjust focus, are essential.
