Lead Captain, Gulfstream G500 (GVII), Part 91

Position Overview
Clay Lacy Aviation seeks a highly skilled and experienced Lead Captain for a Part 91 Gulfstream G500 operation based in Reno, Nevada (KRNO). The Lead Captain serves as both a proficient flight crewmember and a vital link between the flight department account and Clay Lacy Aviation management. This role is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, effective communication, and fostering positive relationships within the flight department and across the organization. Candidates must reside within a two-hour drivable commute distance of Reno, NV, or be willing to relocate. A type rating on the Gulfstream GVII is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
The Lead Captain's duties encompass a range of flight, administrative, maintenance liaison, and personnel management responsibilities, including:
- Serving as Pilot in Command (PIC) or Second in Command (SIC) as designated for all flight operations.
- Ensuring strict compliance with flight and maintenance schedules, aircraft operational directives, and applicable regulations.
- Adhering to flight and duty time limitations, following Part 135 standards where appropriate for Part 91 operations.
- Completing comprehensive pre-flight and post-flight duties and inspections in accordance with the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM).
- Coordinating with the Director of Maintenance (DOM) and Account Manager (ACM) regarding aircraft cleaning and maintenance scheduling.
- Managing aircraft inventory to meet owner requirements, potentially in coordination with a Cabin Attendant.
- Monitoring crew member performance and providing feedback to the Assistant Chief Pilot (ACP) for annual reviews.
- Reviewing and approving crew expense reports in compliance with company policy.
- Examining monthly billing summaries and reporting discrepancies to accounting and the ACM.
- Coordinating crew member days off and vacation requests, relaying them to the ACP and obtaining owner approval via the ACM when necessary.
- Acting as a liaison with the ACP and the Director of Training regarding crew training and development.
- Conducting monthly reviews of crew currency and upcoming training/evaluation requirements.
- Performing annual aircraft black book audits in conjunction with Flight Operations and the ACP.
- Ensuring compliance with fleet requirements, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and required paperwork.
- Maintaining familiarity with installed aircraft equipment and ensuring all required regulatory operational authorizations are current.
- Staying informed of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events.
- Assisting in the resolution and communication of mechanical Aircraft on Ground (AOG) events as required.
- Reviewing monthly work order invoices.
- Communicating effectively with the Maintenance Controller or DOM regarding maintenance items and squawks to ensure seamless maintenance scheduling coordination with scheduling specialists and the ACM.
- Communicating all trip-related requests or changes from the aircraft owner to the Charter Department and Chief Pilot's office.
- Assisting in gathering operational data for special projects or reporting upon request.
- Mediating and facilitating constructive working relationships within the flight department.
- Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with all external stakeholders and Clay Lacy Aviation personnel.
- Championing and perpetuating Clay Lacy Aviation's company culture and ideals within the flight department.
- Providing constructive feedback through the ACM or Safety Management System to enhance operational efficiency and procedures.
- Collaborating with the ACM to manage the aircraft owner's overall experience.
- Performing additional duties as required to support Clay Lacy Aviation and the aircraft owner, including updating the Scheduling Specialist on schedule changes and other relevant matters.
- Coordinating regular flight department meetings with the ACM, DOM, Scheduling Specialist, and managed billing to discuss activities, maintenance events, budget, identify issues, answer questions, relay owner feedback, and establish future goals.
- Participating in the interview and selection process for flight department personnel in conjunction with the ACP and Chief Pilots.
- Communicating with the ACM for input and approval on operational, personnel, and administrative matters.
- Making recommendations for additional training opportunities for flight department members to the ACM and ACP.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum experience required to safely operate the assigned aircraft in compliance with company operational specifications, the General Operations Manual, and the Flight Operations Manual.
- Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate required.
- Current First Class Medical certificate required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Gulfstream GVII type rating.
- Experience operating under FAA Part 91 and/or FAA Part 135 regulations for the assigned aircraft type.
