Lufthansa Aviation Training Austria GmbH (LAT AT), a core entity within the group and based strategically at Vienna Airport, is dedicated to providing superior cockpit training. Operating as one of Europe’s largest Approved Training Organizations (ATOs), the organization delivers over 20,000 hours of simulator training annually to pilots globally.

The Role

The organization seeks highly experienced and dedicated Synthetic Flight Instructors / Examiners to join its growing instructor team in Vienna. This challenging position requires individuals committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and professional excellence in simulator training. Candidates are sought for training on the following modern aircraft types:

  • A320 / A220 / BD500
  • Q400
  • A330* / A350 (Training for these types is primarily conducted in Frankfurt)

*Note: The A330 rating must be combined with proficiency on at least one other specified aircraft type.

Key Responsibilities

The Synthetic Flight Instructor / Examiner is tasked with comprehensive pilot development and assessment. Primary duties include:

  • Executing theoretical and practical training modules in strict adherence to established training standards.
  • Preparing meticulously tailored training sessions to effectively meet specific customer training requirements.
  • Contributing actively to the development, review, and enhancement of comprehensive training materials and documentation.

Candidate Profile and Qualifications

Prospective candidates must possess substantial, long-standing experience as an instructor within certified flight operations or formal training organizations. Essential requirements include:

Certifications and Experience

  • Possession of a valid EASA Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) coupled with a current Multi-Pilot Aircraft (MPA) Type Rating, or demonstrable proof of a previously held MPA Type Rating.
  • A valid Synthetic Flight Instructor (SFI) Certificate for a minimum of one of the aircraft types listed above, or current and recognized Examiner approval.
  • A minimum of 500 hours of instructional experience gained in a Flight Simulation Training Device (FSTD) or in the aircraft, acting as a Synthetic Flight Instructor (SFI) or Type Rating Instructor (TRI).
  • Proven and verifiable experience within the professional airline training sector.
  • Demonstration of occupational medical fitness.

Skills and Competencies

  • High level of social and didactic competence, strong teamwork skills, and exemplary customer orientation.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office applications.
  • Willingness to travel for training assignments when necessary.
  • Commitment to achieving qualification on an additional aircraft type, as required by operational needs.

Language Requirements

  • Minimum ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4.
  • German language proficiency: Native speaker level, or Certified Language Level C1 (Expert Knowledge), or ICAO Level 5 "Extended."
