JTAC Instructor/Operator - Aviation Training Specialist

The Opportunity

This pivotal role involves the operation of advanced Fire Support and Terminal Attack Control (JTAC) simulators. The JTAC Instructor/Operator will provide critical instruction for Close Air Support (CAS) familiarization and develop highly realistic, challenging training scenarios aligned with supported command operational objectives. Key responsibilities include the planning, development, scheduling, and synchronization of all aspects of the JTAC trainer/simulator. Furthermore, this position will contribute to the integration of Live, Virtual, Constructive, Gaming (LVCG) and Synthetic Training Environment (STE) systems, advising on training and mission rehearsal tasks, and evaluating JTAC and Forward Observer targeting devices.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver Terminal Attack Control academic instruction in accordance with USSOCOM 350-5 and JTAC Memoranda of Agreement (MOA).
• Provide comprehensive academic and practical instruction covering all facets of Fire Support, including Terminal Attack Control, Naval Gunfire, Call for Fire, AC-130 operations, and attack aviation.
• Operate Fire Support/JTAC simulators, delivering instruction to USSOCOM JTACs, trainees, and for CAS familiarization.
• Plan, develop, schedule, and synchronize all components of the JTAC Trainer, crafting realistic simulator training scenarios that align with the unit’s Designed Operational Capabilities Statement.
• Attend relevant simulator and operational conferences to maintain expertise in current software and hardware applications.
• Research and integrate emerging operational tactics, techniques, and procedures into unit training programs.
• Maintain JTAC qualification and currency as mandated by the JTAC MOA.
• Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other standard office automation tools.
• Possess a thorough understanding of the principles, concepts, practices, and standards governing JTAC training simulators.
• Work effectively at customer facilities, adapting to both conventional and austere operational environments.
• Travel as required to support the needs of the operating command, adhering to local requirements.
• Conduct instruction, training, and education in field environments, accommodating seasonal and adverse weather conditions.
• Perform instruction, training, and education in field environments utilizing watercraft, aircraft, and/or ground vehicular transportation.

Qualifications

Required:

• Possession of a Secret Security Clearance with eligibility for Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).
• Certified as a Joint Terminal Attack Controller Instructor or Evaluator (JTAC-I/E) during military service.
• Demonstrated operational JTAC experience with Special Operations Forces (SOF).
• Experience in planning, coordinating, and employing lethal and non-lethal effects.
• Proficiency with JTAC simulators, associated simulation software, and training aids.
• Competence with military air-ground communication systems.

Desired:

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Training and experience with the Modern Air Combat Environment (MACE).
• Training and experience with the Joint Terminal Control Training Rehearsal System (JTC TRS).
• Training and experience with the HAVIK Joint Fires Trainer.
• Training and experience with Joint Fires Battlespace Simulations.

The proposed salary range for this position is: $61,600 - $129,300 per year.

Please note: A variety of factors can influence the final salary, including geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications. The range displayed represents the national average for this position.
