Helicopter Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI)
Boeing Defence Australia is seeking experienced Helicopter Qualified Flying Instructors (QFIs) to join its team supporting the Helicopter Aircrew Training System (HATS) based in Nowra. Operating the EC135 T2+ aircraft, the QFI is primarily responsible for conducting ab-initio pilot helicopter flying instruction. This opportunity allows instructors to contribute to the mission of training pilots, aircrew, and aviation warfare officers for the Australian Defence Force.

Responsibilities:
A Qualified Flight Instructor within Boeing Defence Australia is expected to:
- Conduct ab-initio flight instruction on the EC-135 T2+ aircraft.
- Conduct ground instruction, briefings, and lectures.
- Operate Training Aircraft and Training Equipment, including live and synthetic devices.
- Update trainee records and aircraft records.
- Brief the Pilot Training Officer on trainee progress and mentor trainees.
- Review trainee progress in ground training events and assessments.
- Maintain aircrew qualifications and currency requirements in accordance with relevant Standing and Special Flying Instructions.
- Conduct Secondary Missions in support of 723 SQN tasking as requested.
- Provide flying supervision to trainees.
- Review and recommend changes to Training packages and courseware.
- Provide support to JHS Winching and Load lifting Training evolutions.
- Perform other duties as required by the Pilot Training Officer.
- Provide written and verbal pre-briefs and debriefs to students.
- Participate in external evaluations, including safety-related investigations.
- Assist the HATS Training Manager with BDA related activities as required.
- Comply with WHS-related JHS OIP to ensure a safe workplace.

Essential Criteria:
Candidates require the following qualifications and experience:
- Current CASA Class 1 Medical and ability to maintain its requirements.
- Minimum CASA Commercial Pilot Licence (Helicopter) – CPL(H).
- CASA Command Instrument Rating (Helicopter) or military equivalent.
- CASA Night Visual Flight Rules Rating or military equivalent.
- CASA Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) rating or military equivalent.
- CASA Sling Load and Winching Operations Endorsement or military equivalent.
- CASA Flying Instructor (Helicopter) Grade 2 rating or military equivalent.
- TAE40122 or current TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or ability to obtain.
- Category C rotary wing Qualified Flying Instructor or greater.
- Military flight instruction experience.
- A history of helicopter NVD formation experience.
- 250 hours of NVD flight operations.
- Previous day and night Deck Landing Qualification (DLQ).
- Clear and effective English written and verbal communication skills, especially in a stressful flying environment.
- Current Competency Standard HLTAID003 – Provide first aid.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact successfully with co-workers to meet organisational goals.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Workplace/Occupational Health and Safety procedures.
- Intermediate to advanced level of MS Office skills.
Desirable Criteria:
Experience in the following areas is advantageous:
- Ab-initio flying instruction experience.
- EC135 flying experience.
- Category B rotary wing Qualified Flying Instructor or greater.
- Instructional experience in synthetic devices.
- Experience in a safety management role.
- Experience working in a contractor environment, directly with customers.

Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements applicable to specific site positions will be outlined by the recruitment manager in consultation with the Environment Health & Safety Department. A formal assessment may be required.
