Instructor Pilot
Amentum is currently accepting applications for the position of Instructor Pilot at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence, Fort Rucker, Alabama. This role is crucial to the training of the next generation of Army helicopter pilots.
The selected candidate will provide instruction in the UH-72 helicopter. While military aviation experience or UH-72 qualification is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a program that boasts an unprecedented safety record, with over 2.3 million hours of flight instruction, and plays a vital role in preparing student pilots for combat environments.
The training program, a partnership between the Army and Amentum, operates in a multinational environment, with classes conducted in shifts from early morning until late night. Instructor Pilots lead undergraduate student pilots through comprehensive training that includes aviation theory, simulator instruction, and actual flight training across a vast training area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert instruction in the UH-72 helicopter, guiding student pilots through the training curriculum.
- Contribute to the development of leadership skills in student pilots, preparing them for future command positions.
- Adhere to and promote a culture of safety, maintaining the program's exceptional safety record.
- Participate in a dynamic training environment that operates across multiple shifts.
Required Qualifications:
- Must possess an ICAO equivalent or FAA commercial pilot certificate and an ICAO equivalent or FAA flight instructor certificate with rotorcraft category, helicopter class, and instrument helicopter ratings on both certificates, or be a graduate of any DOD rotary wing instructor pilot course for rotary wing aircraft.
- Minimum of 1500 hours total flight time. Flight time as pilot-in-command or second in command (per FAR 61.51); as Pilot in Command (PC) or Pilot (PI) (Per AR 95-1) in aircraft of any weight or category is creditable for this requirement.
- Must have a combined total of 100 hours of hooded instrument, flight simulator instrument, or weather pilot time.
- Proven experience instructing students in instrument flight training.
- Minimum of 75 hours of night flying time.
- Minimum of 500 hours of instructor time.
- Must possess a current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate prior to beginning MOI training.
- Must not exceed 250 pounds in flight duty uniform.
- Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Important Considerations:
- Applicants are subject to Government approval and a 12-month Employee Training Agreement.
- Selected candidates will be required to pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check.
- Selected candidates must complete training and pass a government acceptance checkride.
