Aviation Operations Specialist (Plane Captain)

Job Overview
The Aviation Operations Specialist (Plane Captain) is responsible for comprehensive aircraft handling, servicing, and conducting daily and turnaround inspections in accordance with established procedures. This position provides crucial pre-operational checks, fuels ground support equipment, and offers technical assistance and guidance to flight line personnel. The role demands meticulous attention to detail and adherence to stringent safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute duties consistent with Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Perform daily and turnaround inspections according to applicable procedures.
- Initiate and complete all required maintenance documentation accurately.
- Conduct aircraft fuel sampling and servicing as per established procedures.
- Manage aircraft launch and recovery operations.
- Serve as the aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery phases.
- Perform aircraft towing and act as a brake rider when necessary.
- Secure aircraft by tying down and covering them using established procedures.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to team members.
- Utilize two-way communication equipment effectively for operational coordination.
- Ensure strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Adhere to all general and industrial safety rules and regulations relevant to the contract, facility, and job assignment.
- Maintain the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Deliver courteous and professional customer service to all stakeholders.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment as required.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the work center.
- Perform other qualified duties as assigned to support operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required government/company licenses, qualifications, certifications, and clearances.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in the English language, including the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements.
- Physical capability to climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, carry, balance, reach above shoulder level, and push or pull weight up to 70 pounds.
- Excellent vision, including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Normal hearing range is required.
- Must successfully complete the required training program and be certified as a Plane Captain, with semi-annual requalification mandatory.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. (US Citizenship is a prerequisite for obtaining a Secret Clearance).
- Must be qualified on all assigned Type/Model/Series (T/M/S) aircraft.
- Flexibility to work all assigned shifts and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with F-18 (A-F), EA-18G, E-2C, F-16, and/or MH60 aircraft is strongly preferred.
- Relevant licensing and certifications, including:
- Hazardous Waste Communications Training
- FOD and TCP Awareness Training
- ISO 9001-2000 Program Awareness
- Operational Risk Management (ORM) Training
- Licensure and proficiency in operating support equipment such as tow tractors, nitrogen servicing carts, engine wash carts, and engine start units.
- Experience handling hazardous materials in the performance of assigned duties is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability in eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
- Potential requirement to use respiratory protection.
HOURLY Rate of Pay: $50.66. Rate will increase to $55.75 upon meeting mandatory qualifications as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
