The Illinois National Guard is seeking a highly skilled Airplane Pilot (Title 32) for a GS-13 position located in Illinois. This role involves piloting unit-equipped aircraft, performing advanced flight operations, and contributing to the Air Operations program through administrative support and training development.
About the Role
The Airplane Pilot will operate advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft using precision instrument flight techniques. Responsibilities include executing tactical and non-tactical missions in various weather conditions, meticulous flight preparation including weather analysis and flight planning, and ensuring aircraft readiness. The pilot will also maintain operational safety, conduct post-flight activities, and serve as the Air Commander's representative in specific capacities. This position is instrumental in developing comprehensive training plans, unit planning for wartime and national tasking, and administering flight, explosive, and ground safety programs in compliance with Air Force, ANG, and OSHA directives.

Membership in the Illinois National Guard is mandatory and must be achieved prior to the effective date of placement.

Must be able to wear a military uniform.

Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.

Must successfully complete a background investigation and meet federal employment suitability standards.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

May be required to travel by military or commercial air.

Work may require access to classified information.

May be required to work irregular, overtime, or non-standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Drug testing may be required.

Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Must maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
Qualifications

An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is mandatory. A graduate degree is optimal.

Possess Federal Aviation Administration certifications from accredited civilian aviation programs or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

General Experience: Minimum of one-year on-the-job experience in a role comparable to GS-12.

Specialized Experience (GS-13): At least two years of experience in civilian or military aviation programs, piloting and instructing in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft. Experience should include mission planning, flight preparations, aircraft inspections, operating aircraft controls, navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, surveillance, reconnaissance, crew member training, developing plans and policies, flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics. Experience in aviation unit quality control management and unit safety programs is also required.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12 level.
