This supervisory position serves as a first-level instructor and supervisor for nonsupervisory staff. The role involves planning, directing, and organizing operations while also acting as an aircraft simulator and academic instructor for students in the United States Air Force (USAF) Undergraduate Remotely Piloted Aircraft Training (URT) program. The employer and location are within the USAF.

Performs first-level supervisory workforce management.

Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.

Serves as a simulator instructor for Undergraduate RPA training (URT) and graduate Simulator Instructor Training (SIT-R), covering aircraft operations in national and international airspace.

Serves as an academic instructor for students in URT and SIT-R programs.

Carries out special projects, including preparing and presenting research material.

This is a non-flying, Mission-Essential position.
Requirements

U.S. Citizenship required.

Males must be registered for Selective Service.

Previous experience as a rated military aviator (instructor pilot) is highly desirable.

Must possess the intellectual ability to adapt to rapidly changing training tools, methods, and requirements.

Incumbent may be required to stand for extended periods while instructing.

Work may occasionally require travel via military or commercial aircraft/vehicle for conferences or meetings, including overnight stays.

Occasional work outside normal duty hours, including shift work, overtime, and irregular hours, may be required.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if the applicant has not previously met this requirement.

Qualifications

Must have the ability to instruct at an expert level in a wide range of interdisciplinary studies including Aerodynamics, Flying Fundamentals, Basic and Advanced Instrument Flying, Aircraft Systems, Weather, Crew Resource Management, Operating Procedures, Navigation, Safety, and Aircraft Mishap Prevention.

Must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing as the position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program.

Must possess the appropriate FAA pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings, meeting applicable flight hour requirements.

For flight instructor positions, a current FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent is required.

Minimum flight hour requirements include:

Total Flight Time: 1500 hours

Pilot-In-Command: 250 hours

Night Flying: 75 hours

Flying Time Last 12 months: 100 hours

Instrument Hours: 75 hours

Instructor: 500 hours

Candidates must possess a current first or second-class medical certificate at the time of initial appointment.

Federal Time-In-Grade requirements apply for General Schedule (GS) positions.

Knowledge of aircraft systems operation, operating procedures, aerodynamics, emergency procedures, aviation weather, flight hazards, flight profile management, navigation, basic and advanced instrument training, and aircraft safety, mishap prevention, crew resource management, and simulator operation.

Knowledge of safety, security regulations, practices, and procedures.

Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional techniques, and training resources.

Skill in using various computer applications and software, including simulator systems.

Skill in using electronic flight bags for academic and simulator training.

Skill in review and analysis techniques for appraising programs, identifying needs and solutions, developing goals, and evaluating success.

Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of an organization.
