A Supervisory Instructor position is available with the United States Air Force (USAF) in the Operations career field, focusing on Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) training. This role involves both supervisory responsibilities and serving as an academic and simulator instructor for undergraduate and graduate RPA training programs.
About the Role
This non-flying, mission-essential position requires an individual to serve as a first-level supervisor, responsible for planning, directing, organizing, and overseeing nonsupervisory instructors. The incumbent will also act as an aircraft simulator and academic instructor for students enrolled in the Undergraduate Remotely Piloted Aircraft Training (URT) and Simulator Instructor Training (SIT-R) programs. Duties include performing supervisory workforce and personnel management, instructing on aircraft operations in national and international airspace, preparing research material, and carrying out special projects.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Previous experience as a rated military aviator (instructor pilot) is highly desirable.

Must possess the intellectual ability to adapt to changing training tools, methods, and requirements.

Incumbent may be required to stand for extended periods while instructing.

Work may occasionally require travel away from the duty station, including overnight stays.

May be required to work other than normal duty hours, including overtime and irregular hours.

A 1-year supervisory probationary period is required if the applicant has not previously met this requirement.

Must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
Qualifications

Ability to instruct at an expert level in various interdisciplinary studies, including Aerodynamics, Flying Fundamentals, Instrument Flying, Aircraft Systems, Weather, Crew Resource Management, Operating Procedures, Navigation, Safety, and Aircraft Mishap Prevention.

Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional techniques, and training resources.

Skill in using computer applications, software, and simulator systems for instruction.

Skill in using electronic flight bags for academic and simulator training.

Skill in review and analysis techniques for program appraisal, needs identification, and solution development.

Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of an organization.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Possession of appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates and/or appropriate military ratings.

For flight instructor roles, possession of an FAA Flight Instructor Certificate or military equivalent rating is required.

Minimum flight hour requirements for GS-11 and above:

Total Flight Time: 1500 hours
