Summary
The Illinois National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot to join the IL 126 unit. This position involves piloting unit-equipped airplanes while performing critical administrative and operational tasks in support of the Air Operations program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Pilot advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions, utilizing precision instrument flight techniques.

Execute flight procedures and standard maneuvers across all weather conditions and flight parameters.

Conduct comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirement calculations, weight distribution checks, and crew briefings.

Ensure flight safety by strictly adhering to technical manuals, coordinating with ground control, monitoring aircraft performance, and executing emergency procedures as necessary.

Manage post-flight documentation, including logs, forms, flight reports, and coordination with maintenance personnel.

Act as the Air Commander’s representative when serving as Supervisor of Flying (SOF).

Design technical aircrew training plans and develop unit deliberate planning for national and base taskings.

Administer flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in compliance with Air Force, ANG, and OSHA directives.
Qualifications
Education:
An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory. A graduate degree is considered optimum. Official transcripts are required.
Experience:

Must possess at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level (or equivalent military rank).

Must possess at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs, including piloting or instructing in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.

Proficiency in mission planning, aircraft inspection, navigation, meteorology, and military aviation directives is required.
Certifications:
Candidates must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from an accredited civilian program or equivalent military aviation certifications.
Training Requirement:
Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
Conditions of Employment

Membership in the Illinois National Guard is required prior to the effective date of placement.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Requirement to wear a military uniform.

Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.

Subject to drug testing, background investigations, and trial periods.

Must be registered with the Selective Service (for males born after 31 December 1959).

Position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment regarding domestic violence convictions.

Availability for irregular hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and travel as required.

Mandatory participation in direct deposit.
