This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position. The selected individual will pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft and perform administrative duties in support of the Air Operations program.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

Pilot advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.

Execute flight procedures and standard maneuvers across all weather conditions.

Perform comprehensive flight preparation, including weather analysis, route planning, fuel requirement calculation, weight distribution verification, and preflight checks.

Ensure safe aircraft operation by adhering to flight manuals, coordinating with ground control, and executing emergency procedures as necessary.

Complete post-flight activities, including log maintenance, reporting, and maintenance coordination.

Serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing Supervisor of Flying (SOF) duties.

Develop and coordinate technical aircrew training plans and unit deliberate planning for national tasking.

Administer flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in compliance with Air Force, National Guard, and OSHA directives.
Requirements and Qualifications

Military Membership:
Must be or be willing to become a member of the Illinois National Guard. Must maintain the military grade associated with the position (Officers only, up to O4).

Education:
A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. An advanced degree is preferred. Official transcripts are required.

Certification:
Must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications or equivalent military aviation certifications.

Experience:

At least one year of experience at the level immediately below the GS-13 (GS-12 equivalent).

At least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs involving piloting, instructing, mission planning, and aircraft systems management.

Current federal employees must meet 52-week time-in-grade requirements at the GS-12 level.

Training:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is required.

Security:
Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Medical:
Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
Conditions of Employment

Subject to drug testing and background investigations.

Subject to the Lautenberg Amendment regarding domestic violence convictions.
