Summary:
This is a National Guard Title 32 excepted service position. The incumbent will pilot unit-equipped (UE) airplanes and perform administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Pilot advanced, single or multi-engine military airplanes and high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.

Execute standard maneuvers and flight procedures in all weather conditions, ensuring safety parameters (speed, loading) are strictly maintained.

Conduct comprehensive flight preparations, including weather analysis, route planning, fuel requirement calculations, flight plan filing, preflight inspections, and crew/passenger briefings.

Coordinate with ground control, monitor aircraft performance, and execute emergency procedures as required.

Complete post-flight activities, including log maintenance, reporting, and coordination with maintenance personnel.

Serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF).

Develop technical aircrew training plans and unit deliberate planning for wartime and national tasking.

Administer unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Air Force, ANG, and OSHA directives.
Qualifications and Requirements

Education:
A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. A graduate degree from an accredited civilian institution or military education school is preferred. Official transcripts must be submitted.

Certifications:
Must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from accredited civilian programs or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

General Experience:
Minimum of one year of on-the-job experience in a grade (or comparable military rank) immediately below the next higher level of GS-12.

Specialized Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience in civilian or military aviation programs. Applicants must have experience in piloting and instructing, mission planning, aircraft maintenance coordination, and applying operational directives.

Military Status:
Must be a member of the Illinois National Guard. Position is open to officers up to the rank of O4.

Security Clearance:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

Training:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is required.

Medical:
Must maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.
Conditions of Employment

Selectee must wear a military uniform.

Must be eligible for and maintain Illinois National Guard membership.

Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Subject to background investigation and potential trial period.

Position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment (Domestic Violence Misdemeanor).

May require irregular, overtime, evening, weekend, or holiday hours.

Drug testing may be required.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Travel via military or commercial air may be required.
