Position Summary
This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position. The selected candidate will pilot unit-equipped (UE) military aircraft and perform administrative functions in support of the Air Operations program.
Key Responsibilities

Pilot advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, for tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.

Execute flight procedures and maneuvers across all weather conditions and flight parameters.

Manage comprehensive flight preparation, including weather analysis, route planning, fuel requirements, and pre-flight inspections.

Ensure safe operation of the aircraft, adhering to flight manuals, coordinating with ground control, and executing emergency procedures as necessary.

Complete post-flight requirements, including maintenance logs, reports, and coordination with support personnel.

Represent the Air Commander as a Supervisor of Flying (SOF) to ensure mission efficiency and safety.

Design training plans, coordinate unit planning for wartime and national tasking, and administer safety programs in accordance with Air Force, ANG, and OSHA directives.
Qualifications and Requirements

Military Membership:
Must be or become a member of the Illinois National Guard. Must hold military grade up to O4.

Education:
Mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree is considered an asset. Official transcripts are required.

Certification:
Must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from accredited civilian programs or military aviation schools.

General Experience:
Minimum one year of on-the-job experience in the grade immediately below the GS-13 level (or comparable military rank).

Specialized Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience in civilian or military aviation programs, including piloting and instructing on fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.

Training:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is mandatory.

Security:
Must possess or be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance.

Medical:
Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
Conditions of Employment

Must wear a military uniform.

Must be registered for Selective Service (for males born after 31 December 1959).

Subject to federal background investigation and drug testing.

May require irregular, overtime, evening, weekend, or holiday hours.

May require travel via military or commercial air.

Position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment regarding domestic violence convictions.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
