Position Summary
The Airplane Pilot (Title 32) is responsible for piloting unit-equipped (UE) aircraft and performing administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program. This role requires precision instrument flight techniques, tactical mission execution, and the management of comprehensive aircrew training and safety programs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Pilot advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.

Execute flight procedures and maneuvers within all parameters and weather conditions.

Conduct thorough mission planning, including route study, fuel requirements, weather analysis, and flight plan filing.

Perform pre-flight inspections, weight and balance verification, and passenger/crew safety briefings.

Ensure operational safety, coordinate with ground control, and execute emergency procedures as required.

Complete post-flight logs, reports, and coordination with maintenance personnel.

Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF) to oversee safe and efficient mission accomplishment.

Design training plans and scenarios; develop unit planning for wartime and national taskings.

Administer flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in compliance with Air Force, ANG, and OSHA directives.
Candidate Qualifications
Education Requirements

Mandatory: Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.

Optimum: Graduate degree from an accredited civilian academic institution or equivalent professional military education school.

Official transcripts are required to support educational claims.
Professional Certifications

Candidates must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from accredited civilian programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools. Copies of certifications must be provided with the application.
Experience Requirements

General Experience:
Minimum of one year of on-the-job experience in the grade or comparable military rank immediately below the GS-13 level.

Specialized Experience:
Minimum of two years of experience in civilian or military aviation programs. This includes experience in piloting and instructing, mission planning, aircraft inspection, navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, surveillance, and reconnaissance.

Time-in-Grade:
Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the GS-12 level.
Conditions of Employment

Membership in the Illinois National Guard and the military grade associated with the position is required prior to placement.

Must maintain USAF military pilot medical standards.

Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Selected candidates are required to wear a military uniform.

Subject to drug testing and background investigations.

Requires availability for irregular/overtime hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Must comply with the Lautenberg Amendment regarding domestic violence convictions.

Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
