Position Summary

The Airplane Pilot (Title 32) is responsible for piloting unit-equipped (UE) aircraft and performing administrative duties in support of the Air Operations program. The incumbent conducts tactical and non-tactical missions, ensuring safe and efficient operation of high-performance military aircraft.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Execute flight procedures and maneuvers within established parameters in all weather conditions.
  • Conduct comprehensive mission planning, including weather analysis, route navigation, fuel requirements, and flight plan filing.
  • Perform pre-flight inspections, weight and balance distribution, and ensure crew and passenger briefings.
  • Coordinate with ground units and controlling agencies to maintain operational safety and mission success.
  • Complete post-flight activities, including log maintenance, flight reporting, and maintenance coordination.
  • Serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing Supervisor of Flying (SOF) duties.
  • Design technical aircrew training plans and unit-level deliberate planning for national and base taskings.
  • Administer unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in compliance with Air Force, ANG, and OSHA directives.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education: A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Experience: Must possess at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs, including piloting and instructing on specified airframes.
  • General Experience: Minimum of one year of on-the-job experience at a level comparable to the GS-12 grade.
  • Certifications: Possession of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications or equivalent military aviation school credentials is mandatory.
  • Training: Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is required.
  • Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • Military Membership: Applicants must be members of the Illinois National Guard or willing to become Title 32 Dual Status Technicians.
  • Medical: Pilots must maintain the medical standards required of USAF military pilots.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must maintain military membership in the Illinois National Guard in the grade of O4 or below.
  • Must wear a military uniform as required.
  • Registration with the Selective Service is required for males born after December 31, 1959.
  • Subject to federal employment suitability background investigations and potential drug testing.
  • Must adhere to the Lautenberg Amendment regarding domestic violence convictions.
  • May be required to work irregular, overtime, evening, weekend, or holiday hours.
  • Mandatory participation in direct deposit.
  • May require travel for official conferences, meetings, or operational contingencies.
