Job Summary
This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position for an Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) with the Illinois 126th National Guard. The incumbent is responsible for piloting unit-equipped aircraft and performing administrative duties in support of the Air Operations program.
Key Responsibilities

Pilot advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.

Execute flight procedures and standard maneuvers across all weather conditions.

Conduct comprehensive flight preparation, including weather analysis, route planning, fuel requirement calculations, aircraft pre-flight inspections, and crew briefings.

Ensure safe aircraft operation by adhering to flight manuals, coordinating with ground control, and executing emergency procedures as necessary.

Complete post-flight activities, including maintaining logs, writing reports, and coordinating with maintenance personnel.

Serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF).

Design training plans, develop unit deliberate planning for wartime/national tasking, and administer safety programs in accordance with Air Force, ANG, and OSHA directives.
Qualifications
Mandatory Education and Experience

Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.

Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Minimum of one year of experience at the grade immediately below the next higher level of GS-12 (Time-in-Grade requirements apply for current Federal employees).

At least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs, including piloting and instructing skills in relevant aircraft.

Possession of Federal Aviation Administration certifications or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
Conditions of Employment

Membership in the Illinois National Guard is required prior to the effective date of placement.

Must maintain military grade requirements (Officers only, up to O4).

Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

Compliance with military standards, including wearing a military uniform and meeting USAF medical standards for pilots.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Subject to irregular hours, overtime, drug testing, and travel requirements.

Compliance with the Lautenberg Amendment regarding domestic violence convictions.

Registration with Selective Service for males born after December 31, 1959.
