Position Summary
The Airplane Pilot (Title 32) operates unit-equipped (UE) airplanes and performs administrative functions to support the Air Operations program. This role requires precision instrument flight techniques, adherence to rigorous safety standards, and leadership in unit mission accomplishment.
Key Responsibilities

Pilot advanced single-engine, multi-engine, and high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions.

Execute flight procedures and standard maneuvers across all weather conditions.

Conduct comprehensive pre-flight planning, including route analysis, fuel requirements, weather assessment, and crew briefings.

Ensure operational safety by adhering to aircraft manuals, coordinating with ground control, and executing emergency procedures as necessary.

Perform post-flight administrative duties, including maintaining flight logs, writing reports, and coordinating with maintenance personnel.

Serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF).

Develop training plans, deliberate wartime/base planning, and manage unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs.
Qualifications

Education:
A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree is considered optimum.

Experience:
Must possess one year of specialized experience at the grade level immediately below the GS-13 level. Must possess at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs, including piloting and instructing pilot skills.

Training:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is required.

Certification:
Must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from accredited civilian programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

Military Requirements:
Must be or be willing to become an Illinois National Guard member. Must hold a military grade up to O4.

Security Clearance:
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
Conditions of Employment

Must maintain membership in the Illinois National Guard.

Requirement to wear a military uniform.

Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.

Subject to federal background investigation and potential drug testing.

Position covered by the Lautenberg Amendment (Domestic Violence Misdemeanor).

May require irregular, overtime, evening, weekend, or holiday hours.

May require travel via military or commercial air.
