The Oklahoma Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (Title 32) for the 138th Fighter Wing located in Oklahoma. This role involves piloting advanced military aircraft and performing administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program.

About the Role

This position is based at the unit level within an Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group. The primary responsibility is to pilot a unit-equipped (UE) airplane. In addition to flight duties, the incumbent will undertake administrative tasks crucial to the Air Operations program. Key responsibilities include:

  • Piloting advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter jets, on assigned tactical and non-tactical missions using advanced precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Executing normal flight procedures and standard maneuvers in all weather conditions from point-to-point, both domestically and internationally.
  • Maintaining comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems and procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.
  • Ensuring mission qualifications in the assigned aircraft are maintained.
  • Preparing for flights by obtaining weather information, planning routes, calculating fuel requirements, verifying aircraft readiness, and briefing crew members and passengers.
  • Operating the aircraft with the utmost safety, adhering to flight manuals, coordinating with ground units, monitoring performance, and taking corrective action as needed.
  • Completing post-flight activities including maintaining logs, writing reports, and coordinating with maintenance personnel.
  • Serving as the Air Commander's representative when performing Supervisor of Flying (SOF) duties, responsible for the safe and efficient accomplishment of unit missions.
  • Rotating to perform administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program, including training and scheduling, planning, safety, and Inspector General functions.

Requirements

  • National Guard Membership is required.
  • Must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the required military grade.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial air.
  • Work may require access to classified information; must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Pilots are required to maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.
  • Possession of a valid state driver’s license.
  • Ability to qualify to operate government motor vehicles for maintenance purposes only.
  • Must have the appropriate security clearance.
  • May be required to serve up to a two-year probationary period.
  • Military Grades: O-1 through O-4.
  • Mandatory Qualification Requirement: 11F AFSC.
  • Eligibility for Dual Status technician positions requires appropriate military certifications, military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment, and required competencies.
  • General Experience: Minimum of one year of on-the-job experience in the grade (or comparable military rank) immediately below the next higher level.
  • Specialized Experience: At least two years of experience in military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components) or ANG Wing/Operations Group.
  • Experienced in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following aircraft: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).
  • Competence includes the ability to train and instruct others in piloting a specified main-frame military aircraft.
  • Experienced in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information.
  • Experienced in supervising and/or conducting mission planning, flight plan filing, and crew briefings.
  • Experienced in aircraft preflight inspections, loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.
  • Experienced in operating aircraft controls and equipment.
  • Experienced in performing or supervising navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations, surveillance, or reconnaissance.
  • Experienced in conducting or supervising crew member training.
  • Experienced in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
  • Experienced in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.
  • Experienced in aviation unit quality control management programs.
  • Experienced in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs.
  • Experienced in one or more missions such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, surveillance, reconnaissance, or surface attack.
  • Experienced in traditional "stick and rudder" type controls and aircraft instrumentation.
  • Experienced in visual flight rule (VFR) and instrument flight rule (IFR) flying.
  • Experienced in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) controlled airspace.
  • Experienced in working independently to plan and perform work assignments.
  • Experienced in completing safe and efficient mission accomplishments through Operational Risk Management.
  • Experienced in performing aviation duties such as cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, or directing emergency actions.
  • Experienced in standardization and evaluation programs, written ground examinations, and emergency procedures.
  • Experienced on weaponry and combat or non-combat tactics for applicable military aircraft.
  • Experienced with wartime and peacetime contingency plans and supplements.

Education

  • An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is mandatory.
  • A Graduate Degree from an accredited civilian academic college or from an equivalent professional military education school is optimum.
  • Must have Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
