Position Overview
This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service non-bargaining unit position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) with the Montana Air National Guard, 120 OSS. This role involves the operation of advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, across tactical and non-tactical missions.
Key Responsibilities

Execute flight procedures using advanced precision instrument flight techniques, maintaining strict adherence to flight parameters and safety protocols in all weather conditions.

Conduct comprehensive mission planning, including route study, weather assessment, fuel requirements, weight distribution, and crew briefings.

Perform all pre-flight and post-flight requirements, including maintenance coordination and accurate reporting in airplane logs.

Serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF).

Rotate into administrative support functions, including Training and Scheduling, Unit Plans, Safety program administration, or Inspector General office management.

Operate independently under general policy direction, ensuring all missions comply with NGB, USAF, and gaining command regulations.
Candidate Requirements
Military and Legal Requirements

Must be a member of the Montana Air National Guard or eligible for immediate membership prior to the effective date of placement.

Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C, or able to qualify within six months of hire.

Must maintain medical standards required for USAF military pilots.

Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.

Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.

Must be able to wear the military uniform and participate in direct deposit.
Qualifications and Experience

Military Grade:
O4/Maj – O5/Lt Col.

Education:
Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university (transcripts required).

Certification:
Must possess Federal Aviation Administration certifications from an accredited civilian program or aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school.

Training:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Experience:
Minimum of two years of specialized experience in aviation programs (civilian or military). Candidates must demonstrate competencies in piloting, mission planning, instructing, quality control, and safety program management.
Terms of Employment

This position requires availability for non-standard duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Travel via military or commercial air may be required.
