Position Overview:

ALPA seeks an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator to join its Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department based in Tysons (McLean), Virginia. Serving as the staff focal point for Training and Human Performance policy areas, this role provides expertise and support while coordinating activities related to human performance, pilot training, human factors, and other assigned disciplines. The Coordinator acts as a crucial liaison between ALPA and various government agencies, industry bodies, trade groups, and professional organizations within these fields. Responsibilities also include supporting activities associated with the development and harmonization of regulatory standards worldwide. The Coordinator works closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), its associated groups, other technical departments, and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary staff resource for Training and Human Performance policy areas.
  • Provide expertise, support, and coordination for activities in human performance, training, human factors, and related areas.
  • Act as liaison with government, industry, trade, and professional organizations.
  • Support the development and harmonization of worldwide regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with ALPA's Air Safety Organization, technical groups, and MECs.
  • Answer calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and Pilot Peer Support line on a rotational basis, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, or the equivalent combination of human performance and training, education, and experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance is required.
  • Must possess established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
  • Thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
  • Excellent organizational skills and practiced time management.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt seamlessly to changing demands is highly important.
  • Proficiency in technical writing and presentation skills to communicate effectively with Association members, Officers, government and industry representatives, stakeholders, and staff.
  • Ability to work independently, proactively identifying and responding to issues and problems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types is desired. Additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted for the licensing requirement.
  • Previous employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or relevant industry segments in a relevant capacity is extremely helpful.

Travel: Up to 20% is anticipated. Sporadic local and national travel could occasionally be as much as 25% of the time.

Physical Demands:

The role requires the ability to constantly operate a computer/smartphone/tablet, maintain a stationary position, move about the office and local area, communicate with others to exchange accurate information, sit, stand, bend, reach, and travel. Occasional moving, raising, reaching, and/or retrieving items up to ten (10) pounds is required, with potential for handling luggage up to 50 lbs. during travel.

Salary Range: $ 96,027.00 – $ 137,179.00
