Training & Human Performance Coordinator
Location: Tysons (McLean), Virginia, United States
The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and non-governmental aviation safety organization, representing over 79,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, seeks a qualified Training & Human Performance Coordinator for its Tysons (McLean), Virginia office.
As a key member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, the Training & Human Performance Coordinator serves as the central staff point of contact for matters related to Training and Human Performance policies within ALPA. The Coordinator provides specialized expertise and support, coordinating critical activities in the fields of human performance, pilot training, human factors, and other related areas as assigned. This role involves extensive liaison work between the Association and various government agencies, industry bodies, trade associations, and professional organizations relevant to these disciplines. Responsibilities also include activities supporting the development and harmonization of global regulatory standards. The Coordinator collaborates closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO) and its constituent groups, as well as other technical committees and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent combination of human performance, training, education, and relevant experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of direct professional experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance is required.
- Must possess established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
- Demonstrated thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are essential for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational abilities and proven time management skills.
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt seamlessly to changing demands.
- Proficiency in technical writing and presentation skills to effectively communicate with Association members, Officers, government and industry representatives, stakeholders, and staff.
- Ability to work independently and proactively identify and address issues and problems.
- Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Desired Attributes:
- A pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types is highly desired. Additional experience in aviation safety may be considered as a substitute for the licensing requirement.
- Prior employment experience at airlines, the FAA, and/or within the aviation industry segment in a relevant capacity is extremely beneficial.
Physical Demands:
The role involves operating a computer/smartphone/tablet constantly; regularly maintaining a stationary position, moving about the office and local metropolitan area, and engaging in conversation and information exchange. It requires regularly sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and moving about the office and during travel. Occasional moving, raising, reaching, and/or retrieving items up to ten (10) pounds is required in the office. During travel, managing luggage up to 50 lbs may be necessary.
Travel:
Up to 20% travel is required; sporadically, travel (local and national) could reach as much as 25%.
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Projected Annual Salary Range:
$96,027.00 – $137,179.00
