Position Overview:
ALPA is seeking a dedicated and experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator to join its Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department at the Tysons (McLean), Virginia office. This vital role serves as the primary staff focal point for policy areas related to Training and Human Performance within the association. The Coordinator provides essential expertise and support, coordinating activities focused on human performance, pilot training, aviation human factors, and other assigned areas. This position involves crucial liaison efforts between ALPA and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations relevant to these disciplines. Responsibilities also encompass related activities associated with the development and harmonization of regulatory standards worldwide. The Coordinator works in close collaboration with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), associated groups, other technical teams, and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the staff expert and focal point for Training and Human Performance policy areas.
- Provide expertise, support, and coordinate activities in human performance, pilot training, aviation human factors, and related fields.
- Act as a liaison between ALPA and relevant government agencies, industry bodies, trade organizations, and professional groups.
- Contribute to activities related to the development and harmonization of aviation regulatory standards globally.
- Collaborate effectively with the ALPA Air Safety Organization, its sub-groups, and other internal technical teams and MECs.
- Participate in the rotational coverage of the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of human performance, training, education, and experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance is required.
- Established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community are essential.
- Thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for effective interaction with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated time management abilities.
- Proven ability to learn quickly and adapt seamlessly to changing demands.
- Proficiency in technical writing and presentation skills to effectively communicate with Association members, Officers, government and industry representatives, and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, proactively identifying and responding to issues and problems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Desired Qualifications:
- Pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types. Additional experience in aviation safety may be considered in lieu of the licensing requirement.
- Previous employment experience at airlines, the FAA, and/or within the aviation industry segment in a relevant capacity is highly advantageous.
Travel:
Travel up to 20% may be required. Sporadically, travel, both local and national, could potentially be as much as 25% of the time.

Salary Range:
Projected annual salary range: $96,027.00 – $137,179.00
