The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and non-governmental aviation safety organization representing over 79,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, is seeking an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator for its Tysons (McLean), Virginia office.
As a key member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, the Training & Human Performance Coordinator serves as the primary staff focal point for the Training and Human Performance policy areas. This role involves providing expert support and coordinating activities related to human performance, pilot training, human factors, and other assigned disciplines. The Coordinator acts as a crucial liaison between the Association and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations pertinent to these fields. Responsibilities also encompass activities associated with the development and harmonization of regulatory standards on a global scale. Collaboration with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO) and its associated groups, other technical departments, and Master Executive Councils (MECs) is essential.
Travel of up to 20% is anticipated, with sporadic instances where travel, both local and national, may constitute as much as 25% of the time.

Minimum Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant human performance and training experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance is necessary.
- Established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community are required.
- A thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) is essential.
- Possession of a pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types is desired, although additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted for the licensing requirement.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
- Excellent organizational skills and proven time management abilities are needed.
- Prior employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or within the industry sector in a relevant capacity is considered highly advantageous.
- The ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands is extremely important.
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills are required to communicate effectively with Association members and Officers, government and industry representatives, stakeholders, and staff.
- The ability to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems is necessary.
- The role requires participation on a rotational basis to answer calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel is expected.
Physical Demands:
The position requires the ability to constantly operate a computer/smartphone/tablet. Regularly required to maintain a stationary position, move about the office and local metropolitan area, understand spoken and written communication, and engage in conversation to exchange accurate information. Regular standing, sitting, bending, reaching, moving about the office, and traveling (locally, nationally, and internationally) are required. Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, or moving items (e.g., packing/unpacking cases) may be necessary. The ability to move, raise, reach, and/or retrieve items up to ten (10) pounds is occasionally required in the office. While traveling, responsibility may include moving luggage weighing up to 50 lbs.

Projected Annual Salary Range: $96,027.00 – $137,179.00
