Training & Human Performance Coordinator

The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization, is seeking an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator to join its team in Tysons (McLean), Virginia. Serving as a vital member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, this role functions as the staff focal point for policy areas related to Training and Human Performance.

The Training & Human Performance Coordinator provides expert support and coordinates activities across human performance, training, human factors, and other assigned areas. This position facilitates liaison between the Association and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations within these disciplines. Responsibilities also encompass activities related to the development and harmonization of regulatory standards worldwide. The coordinator works closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO) and its associated groups, as well as other technical groups and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Providing expertise and support in human performance, training, and human factors.
• Coordinating activities related to Training and Human Performance policy.
• Liaising with government, industry, trade, and professional organizations.
• Contributing to the development and harmonization of regulatory standards.
• Collaborating with the ALPA Air Safety Organization and other internal groups.
• Answering calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and Pilot Peer Support line on a rotational basis, including outside business hours.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of human performance and training, education, and experience.
• Minimum of five years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance.
• Established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
• Thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
• Excellent organizational skills and time management.
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt seamlessly to changing demands.
• Proficiency in technical writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently, proactively identifying and responding to issues.
• Software proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Desired Qualifications:

• Pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types (additional aviation safety experience may substitute).
• Former employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or industry segment in a relevant capacity.

Physical Demands:

The role requires operating computers and mobile devices, remaining stationary, moving within the office and metropolitan area, communicating verbally and in writing, and occasional lifting/moving up to 10 lbs (up to 50 lbs when traveling).

Travel:

Up to 20%, with sporadic instances potentially reaching 25% of the time.

Projected Annual Salary Range:

$96,027.00 – $137,179.00
